The airfield is from the second world war built by the British when Cyprus was still colony to G.B.
I've change the video to cinematic. Watch it full screen. www.youtube.com/watch?v=YFhlVSAF3hk#t=24

Lakatamia Air field.
Lakatamia AFB, ICAO: LCRO) south of Nicosia in Cyprus was built by the British, (RAF,) in the 1930s.
It was in use by elements of 451Sqn RAAF as early as 1941 however. When it was still in use with the British Army Air Corps the airfield had two runways. Upon Cyprus independence the British withdrew to the Sovereign Base Areas and handed over control to Cyprus.
During World War II the airport served as a stopover for USAAF bombers that took part in the Ploesti air raid in Romania.
RAF units operating from the base were:
74 Sqn flying Spitfire V, later Mk IX from September 1943.
80 Sqn flying Hurricane MkI from June 1941.
In mid 80s it was only me with my Bensen and a club with a Cessna 150 flying from there.
