Hello everyone, nice to meet you all, I am PR_Arecibo_DC...that all mean Jose Sanchez from Arecibo, PR but for the past 10 years been in active duty and now retire...I am currently in Frederick, MD (KFDK) and getting in to the world of Gyro's so I am currently do not own one but I have around 10 hours fix wing solo and 8 hours helo..... Just recently flew in a RAF 2000 GTX and love it... I want to get me a good machine but I have a little problem....I am 230lbs and my budget just out of the service, is not that big to spend 30K in a new machine.... Can anyone suggest a good trainer type for my self that can hold a good weight combination of Intructor and Trainee....

Thanks and nice to meet you all....

Welcome Jose, In the MD area is Chris Burgess CFI , He might be able to help you with training unless weight is a issue. He does post here on this forum. Get with a instructor before you jump into a machine purchase.

Hey Rick, nice to meet you... thanks for the info... and I thing I meet Mr. Burgees, I might be wrong is he in Frederick Airport; but if is the one I meet few weeks ago, he cant train me cos I am over 10 pounds...he is 195lbs I believe and I am 230....his machine cant hold the weight...

Welcome Jose

You will find that the weight thing is going to be a problem. You should see someone that has a RAF or Sparrow Hawk trainer and it will hold your weight. However you will probably need to purchase a single seat for yourself. Today there was an Air Command tandem that sold cheap around 13500. US

Good Luck on your quest.

Thanks Dragon....
By any chance you know the "usefull" weight in that Air Command Tandem for Pilot and Paasanger?

Out od the bat 230 for a person who know how to fly is nto an issue of what machine. The main issue is training 230 I can only see a twinstar , and a sparrow hawk taking you up. but with low fuel. so it will be batches of 30 minutes at a time. I stronly suggest the 200 that is a weight that can acomodta several training machines

Should be around 400 lbs. Rusty Nance the PRA President is selling his Tandem Air Command Mazda.. It should be able to take care of you. Check out his post today

Thanks for the Info guys...To bad I cant do any exercise to loose the weight...Unfurtunatly I got shoot in Iraq and lost my right lung...but I will eventually find the right machine....I am just taking everything calm and slow so I can get a nice outcome...

By the way..."Caribean gyro" are you fly in the Arecibo airport or Humacao...?

Hello Jose.

Welcome to the forum.
This is the right place for you and your needs.
Get training first and then choose a gyro that can lift you.

Glad to know you are doing well after the the Iraq trip.

Mr R. Nance is selling his gyro. Its one of a kind and the most powerful available and hes selling it cheap.

Best Wishes.
Rehan

Rehan thanks...

But thats the problem the training...the only instructor around here cant train me because the weight issue...Unfortunally I hate to admit I was un-safe but....I flew solo almost 40 to 50 hours in a home made out of plans sigle seat about 12 to 14 years ago before I join the service and I was a bit unmatture.....most say totally...I was like 15 or 16 yrs old....Friend of mine that his father own a dairy farm with 320 acres of land....was his father machine and his father was traveling all the time so we self teach each other...thanks god never got into an accident.

Well I tell you now that I grow up, I do want to get train and know all I can learn about it...so thats why I am here....

Thanks guys....

Jose
The Golden can take you easy . . .there is one in Florida, our instructor Romulo Duenas is from Venezuela and bilingual also.
You can loose wight but it will take more time, your doctors can help.
But I guess you know that . . .

Sounds easy to loose weight...I use to be all rip, with a 6'pack, running 2 miles in 13min50sec, 10 to 12 miles a day...the all american soldiers, but once got hit and lost my right lung, excersice is really hard for me beside walking...Diets dont work... But my consolation is that I dont go above 230lbs...at least with the minimum activity I do it keep me there... Doctor's...Uhhmm, even having a cousin and a brother been Doctors, is nothingh they can do...I am not fat...my weight is mostly Muscle and bones...maybe few fat but not enough to make me fat....

You probably tall and well built, no much can be done there . . .
I need to get my pot belly out of the picture, my doctor gives me hell and said I am pre-diabetic.
Quit 36 years of hard physical, cold turkey, not good for me.
Discipline is also a factor, gotta get a grip before too late.
heron closing in 200 lb

I talk to Mr. Chris Burgess and he said 200lbs was the safe limit for his machine (front Seat)... I thing as soon I can manage to get a RAF 2000 with a good engine or a SparrowHawk then I will be able to get on track....

Jose, steve can train you and he also has a Sparrowhawk he is selling. How great would that be that you buy steves sparrowhawk and get free training as part of the deal?

Is it possible the Golden is the only one that can take 250 in the front seat?
How much for Steve's SH?
thanks
Heron
