New Solo Pilot

After such a rough start you are slowly getting it. Those thermals are part of the fun flying a gyro. Fly safe at all times. Keep the rotors up and the tail landings on the wheel and slow.

Great going !

Great going !

Good luck on your journey. Gyros are a ton of fun. Once you have a few hours under your belt, thermals will not cause you much alarm. They are a normal part of the atmosphere and can bring some fun to play with.

When did Dave Seace get his CFI ?

I must have missed that.

"Nasty" thermal??
.

I should not have said "nasty", but rather "good". Actually, it was a great thermal to give me altitude with reduced power. Every flight is a training exercise that includes post flight discussion. Dave and Greg always give excellant feed-back. I'm not so sure Dave is interested in becoming a CFI, but Greg is almost there.
On the legal front, Steve McGowan was down for our New Year's fly-in, and I'm on track with him in preparation for a visit to see Ron Menzie in Arkansas. I already have a Sport Pilot ticket with PPC and F/W endorsements. Steve is very happy with my gyro skills so far. I never confuse the flying characteristics of different classes. I have about 50 hours in the gyro now, yet I believe it will take another 100 or so to become seriously proficient. I still have alot to learn and get ingrained.....so slowly it comes, like water into wood. Thank-you all.

I did not know you were just learning about the time I first stared building. I am glad to see that you have done great. So how many hours do you have now?

Hey Chris, I have about 100 hrs. in the gyro now, but smoked my engine last July 4th and had to make an emergency landing in an alligator pit. That's another story.....lol. Perfectly executed landing and the gators kept their distance.....50 feet or so, quite a night that was.
I'm presently waiting on the arrival of another engine, and modifying the frame to accept it. This will be a whole new animal w/ 120 ponies, so I'll have some relearning to do. Several delays in machine work converting the snowmobile engine to aircraft have me doubting a debut at Bensen Days, but I'll be there for sure.

Mark, I sent you a PM and hope this forum helps facilitate your progress. Please don't hesitate to ask any questions here, as there is a wealth of information from very knowledgable people. I had forgot about this thread while moving forward into new territory, but now I'll be a new solo pilot once again. BTW, I am also a "pilot car" driver myself. Just escorted a powerplant sub-assembly on 20 axles. 16'8" high, 14'6" wide, 240' long, and 300,000 lbs. Cool move.
