New Gyrocopter For Sale Subaru Engine

I'm putting this on here for a friend. You can ask questions through me and I will get them answered for you. This belonged to a man that had 2 of them. He flew one while he put this one together. He passed away before he could enjoy this one. I apologize, but I don't have a lot of info on it. It is in running and flying condition. The top propellers need to be put on. It has been ran and flown once or twice. The Subaru engine looks to be new. There is a small crack on the rear wing that can be fixed.

Yeah, it really is unfortunate. It really is a beautiful machine. Those things were a big part of his life. He took a lot of pride in building that. Delivery may be an option if anyone is interested.

If you took it to Mentone (Indiana) for the convention, August 3rd through the 7th, you may be able to find a buyer.

yeah Mentone would be a good place to take it to, lots of Gyros get sold there and that machine is very nicely built.
has it been registered and a C Of A issued?

if not then it is only good for parts as it is more the the FAA 51% build rule done.

but if it has the FAA paperwork in order it should bring a good price.

Not sure if Mentone would work. A lot of work to take it down there....especially if it doesn't sell.

Really thinking about taking this to Mentone. Anyone been there? Since I have to transport it, I don't want to be there every day. Any advice?

That certainly looks like a beautifully built machine.

Didn't look as if it had an N number anywhere but we are told it has flown. Certainly looks in flying order. If he already had and was flying one would imagine this would have been put together correctly.

Price doesn't sound too unreasonable and probably easily what it would have cost, but then as it looks over 254lbs, as Tim has said could be a few problems if it hadn't been registered and inspected.

Mentone is only 45 miles away from South Bend, not like you have to haul it cross country.
(you may be busy, not have a trailer etc, I do not know the situation)

You could leave it in one of the hangars I would think, After selling a couple of gyro's myself, it seems that fly ins are great places to buy/sell them.

I know he was VERY knowledgeable in these and did this one the right way. To be honest, I really don't know about weight limits and inspections. I'll have to find out about those. Are they expensive if not done?

If it wasn't all documented properly when being built it's legally only good for parts at this point as Tim pointed out.

It's definitely too heavy to qualify as an ultralight, don't even need to weigh it to know that given the Subaru power.

I just talked to the widow about the copter and she said it hasn't been registered and does not have any paperwork. So......what needs to be done to get this type of thing registered?

Again, there is no way to legally get it registered at this point.

I don't understand why you need to get it registered if you are flying for personal use. Is it just an FAA thing? Does everyone have theirs registered?

FAA rules. We have the least rules to contend with...but still have rules!

It may be cheating, but..........

If it has no paperwork, never been registered, then why could it not be disassembled then rebuilt useing a build log and pictures. Could you then be the builder?

Took the words out of my mouth. She does have pictures of it being built. It seems to me that if you know what your doing building one of these, why can't you make up the build sheet. It's still considered experimental and you can do things your way.....to a point.
