I'm talking about 0 speed when the front wheel touches down, which is the critical moment of landing in crosswind landing. The speed of main gear touching down is not critical at all. My airspeed idicater shows around 30 knots when my main gears touch down, but actual speed is much lower than...
Few years ago, 40% of Cavalons was involved in accidents. That rate is insanely high. Sure, it affected overall insurance premium. They are relatively expensive. Many of Cavalons are over 200K these days. Its structural design makes repair more difficult and have to be totaled in mane cases...
Accident rate of certified AutoGyro gyros are highly affected by accidents happened on Cavalons. These enclosed side by side gyros need more attention and skill during taking off and landing. In the last several years, some AutoGyro dealers sold many Cavalons to relatively older GA fixed wing...
I just clarified that my gyro is not amateur built, since somebody said amateur built is less safer than certified aircraft. And that is correct. Statistically in US, aircraft in experimental category including amateur built have twice more accident rate than certified aircraft.
I'm also a...
My gyro is not an amateur built experimental aircraft, but a type certified aircraft in a primary category, completely being built and test-flown in AutoGyro German factory.
Just for your information, when I flew over Yosemite, all upper parts of the park were closed due to their frozen condition. That includes all access roads, trails etc in the upper park. Only the main road in Yosemite Valley was open. There were not many tourists in the valley due to a possible...
I don't think gyro has any downdraft period. Grand effect is due to the higher air pressure crated by the rotor, but not by downdraft. Higher air pressure at the bottom of the rotor and less pressure above the rotor. That creates the lift to pull a gyro upward.
