Volunteers for Mentone hanger project

Yup, all you got to do is come up with money ?

Ouch the realist speaks.... Club fund raiser?

Having a fund raiser to raise $20K to $30K (for expanding our facilities) is a great idea. The challenge is typically everyone thinks it is a great idea as long as someone else does it. Do we have anyone out there that likes this idea enough and is passionate about it enough, that they would be willing to be the chairman of this project and make it happen???

Matt,
Can yo get us a 200 amp panel installed in the hanger in a week or so?

Hello Doug
If this addition where to go ahead . It would have to be an executive decision
based on what the membership wants. if someone with the computer skills would set up a poll, we might get an idea of how the membership feels.
Thanks Murray

Matt,

Can you give me a schedule of equipment you have donated? We have ability to temp in power from the nearby camping power posts. Not sure I can accomplish a 200 amp panel that quick. I think we need to think of temp power to the equipment via SJO 10/3 cable from two spots that have 30 amp service each.

Can formulate a plan once I have power schedules.

I will take 2-50amp circuits. I have a couple of 5-ton units, but I think only one air handler. I can get you a 200a panel if it helps.

Brent, as i see it I can bring in power off of the main panel outside and install two fused disconnects with whips fairly easily and not have to worry about running very much conduit for the time being. The disconnects can be located directly adjacent to the main panel on the east end of the hangar, and the condensers installed within 6 feet of the disconnects. Simple and safe....

We could grab 120V for the airhandlers from existing 20AMP outlets inside the space at least just for the convention...or if there is time to put in a small 120V sub panel.

I want to keep this as simple, yet safe as possible and minimize the amount of work needed so that it gets completed on time for the convention.

BTW how do we get the equipment to Mentone?????

Hi Stan

These units were both furnace and airconditioning, the outside compressors have been removed but the furnace/airhandlers are still inside and need to be removed.. The building is to be demolished soon ??? so need to find someone with pickup and or trailer to go to Jenison Mich, (near Grand Rapids ) , remove the furnaces/airhandlers in side and deliver to Mentone, I think PRA should compensate travel expenses at this price.

I have a guy who agreed on a soft price of 325.00 to drive up there (150 miles), remove the furnaces and air conditioners, strap them down, drive to Mentone (150 miles), drop off the goods, and drive back home (100 miles). I would be donating my trailer for his use too and he would have to pick up and drop that off to me as well. I think that is a fair price since likely gas is gonna be prob over 125.00 alone

Guys, not to be Debbie Downer, but give some thought to protecting this stuff from metal thieves. It's hard to imagine a more tempting target than a rural airport that's used once a year.

So why have they not taken the airport office one yet? No Debbie downers please... Life involves risks, or we would not have aviation.

UPDATE,

May have another party that will deliver also, will know in 24 hrs at any rate "it's gonna get delivered". Talked to the owner this evening and they will not release until they have money in hand, and that will be Saturday afternoon also originallly thought one furnace was up stairs, nope all down stairs. Owner says a applicance dolly would make it a breeze, really need two people for safety, local help is a thin maybe.

Years ago I was reading a biography of someone I now cannot recall except for one quotation they made (wish I had said this) "there are three kinds of people in the world, A. those that make things happen, B. those that watch things happen, and C. those that wonder what the hell happen. We got about 6 or 7 people in section A, it's show time pick one, A, B, C.

If we don't have a driver by the convention, I can make the trip Monday the 1st. I'm only guarateed one day off between now and Mentone and already have plans for that day. I start my vacation on the 1st so that's when I'll be available.

Hi Todd

Thanks for stepping up to the plate, but "may" have a party in Grand rapids that could deliver soon, will know in 24 hrs, at any rate it "will get delivered" . Who's going to be at Mentone the earliest ?? May need a bit of muscle to help unload it. "If" the Grand Rapids party can do it, may be able to do it as early as 18 or 19 July. They would be hualed in a snowmobile trailer
