here's a few pics that'll give yall an idea of what I have done..

Beware that it's quietier .

I can hear the swish of the rotor blades inside the cabin during flight

Wrap the pipes due to heat near the other components..and spray with HIGH Temp silicone sealer.

The local FBO say's it sound much like an airplane approaching and flying over.

total cost 265.00..... NOISE Level ------------ "PRICELESS"

The area where the new xhaust went thru had to be cleaned up..

I removed the oil cooler and relocated the solinoid, (never figured out why a solinoid was used there in the first place, but I did relocate it) and clipped the EGT's,, and plugged the holes. The engine computer doesn't use them.

Not being in the Arizona temps now is why I moved the oil cooler...

The weight and balance will not change, or atleast has not with mine enuff to notice.

Put SS Pop rivets in all areas that have been over lapped and welded as to insure security and peace of mind.

Any good exhaust and muffler shop can,, (IF) do this work with the piping..

Summitt Racing carries the High Temp Heat Wrap, I used Black and also they carry the Black 2000' spray.

Use SS safety wire amply on all ends to keep them from UnRapping..

Then paint as directed..

Do you notice a power increase ?

With that style muffler if it is a conventional fiberglass insulated muffler and not a "tuna can" with some baffles inside you might want to check initial exhaust back pressure with a low psi scale fuel gauge would work. Once you put the 02 sensor back in fly it for about 2-3 hours and then double check the pack psi. I have seen some of the passenger car type mufflers come apart with the high temps and high flow. Some of them have even shot the fiberglass wrap out the exhaust pipe, a good sign it cannot take the heat. Or was insulated improperly.

Good flow should be no more than 2-3 psi tops. If it starts coming apart it will clog up and increase.

Is the muffler a Flowmaster Stevey? I need to make mine quieter to keep the landlord happy.....

and get the #'s from the muffler,, I just picked one off the shelf and had it fitted and then I set it on the SH lower frame,

Thanks Jonathon,, I'll check the back pressure but as of now it has not shown any bad tendensies with high temps anywhere,,, especially on the landing gear where I was worried that it could weaken the strut,

But again,,, it's QUIET at idel,, so quiet it could be walked into..

Could you get a video of you flying from the ground if possible?

It may take longer to heat up, but will the pipes eventually reach operating temp? I like the exhaust idea, but the exhaust still looks a little close to the radiator and fuel lines.

I was trying to see the muffler mount as I was wondering where the flex is for movement as to not crack the pipe.

I can put my hand on the tube with the rap and not get burned as the engine is running or just been shut down.

It is very warm but not enuff to burn the skin... and yes it does look close.
 
Steve, are you ignoring me, or did you miss where I was asking what brand muffler is that? I would like to put a quieter muffler on my ship and looking for suggestions. Thanks

No Name on the muffler, it's a 2" in and out either direction..

Not many folks can run over to they're hangar in they're skivies,,, ;)

Thanks Steve, where did you get the muffler? Looks like a Flowmaster
 
Keep a EYE on that battery Steve, It looks real close to me! If this SH has the same HEAT GLOW as the Black does at night then you will be replacing this muffler often! I know you are on first name basis with Mr. Flowmaster when it comes to the BLACK!

I keep real close tabs with the heat range on the battery.. After every flight I'll put my hands on the area to see how hot it's gotten.. I'll probably put a heat shield on the pipes too.

The exhause temps on the 2.5 Sube are very low 12-1300' tops to the 1700-1900' on the Mazda.. The flow on the Sube is also cleaner going out. Stanless Steel won't hold up on the Mazda It's just too danged HOT....so it has an inkanel pre muffler and then to the Flowmaster..

No it's not a Flow master on the SH Ron,, favors a lil bit tho.. and a LOT Cheaper to boot.
 
No comparisons at this time to speak of Heather,, I just know yours and mine get the noise and exhaust away from the cabin,, That in itself is making it less noisey inside the cabin.
 
I emailed them about one for a stock RAF. They said they could send the parts but couldn't fit them as they don't have one there to measure from. From what I see it's just a matter of how long to cut the down tubes. I'll call and talk to him next week. I might be able to fit it into the budget. If not it's something I can add later.
