event of the year

It sounds like that all the flyins are great, but Tina and I have decided on Bensen Days.

Do we fly into Jacksonville or?

Thank all of you for the great input!

Probably Tampa or Orlando is best. Its just about 2 hours exactly from Orlando but I suspect its about 30 minutes closer to Tampa.

Depending on the exact dates, you can sometimes fly into Orlando and find ridiculously cheap motel rates a couple exits east of Orlando along I-4. If you want to camp at BD, but get a motel shower the night you arrive and the night before you head back, it might be a good option.

Tina, Orlando to Wauchula is 85 miles.

Tampa to Wauchula is 65 miles.

Not much difference in mileage so go with the cheapest airfare.

You might consider renting a minivan and buying a pair of plastic air mattresses at WalMart. There will be showers at the airport.

Hay Tina, Need someone to pick you up if you fly-in just let me know seeins how it is my backyard an all, from time iz neehi to grasshopper ya no

....
The lady who caters the food also owns a bed and breakfast in Wauchula. That would be nice for a romantic getway, I imagine.....
Okay, now you did it! This was a closely guarded secret until now.

Romantic? Yeah, it could be but otherwise it is a clean, quaint, quiet, central place to stay. Since you have revealed it's existence I had to go to the web site and make my reservation since there is only about 6 or so rooms. And it looks like I wasn't the first one! Since the word is out I guess it won't hurt to reveal that the name of the place is Quilter's Inn in Wauchula. Web site - www.thequiltersinn.com

I've found the drive from Orlando, while longer, to be easier. But then there are several ways to get there from Tampa and maybe I just haven't used the best one. How far is Fort Myers from Wauchula? What kind of drive is it?

The shortest drive from a commercial airport is probably Bradenton. Flights into there always cost more than everywhere else, though.

It would not be a bad drive at all to come up from Fort Myers. It is probably about a hour and half there too. You would land at SWFI in Fort Myers, rent a car and then go a mile or two to I-75. Drive north up I-75 about 20 miles and get off in Punta Gorda onto HWY17. Take HWY 17 North to Wauchula, about a hours drive at that point. Once in Wauchula, follow the signs to the airport.
