Wires / Power Line Dreams

Weird, now that I think of it, I can't recall ANY dreams about flying...

Crazy dreamer here also!

I have wanted to fly "like a bird" since I was a toddler! I have a visceral "fear-of-heights" ..when on my feet ... my stomach squirms, my knees go to jelly & I lock up & have to be very careful where I look or I will freeze-up!
A couple of years before we started our gyro-journey ..I discovered this reaction does NOT happen in any way shape or form ..WHEN I AM SEATED!

About the time I was at college I had a very vivid dream ...over & over , from 3 points of view experiencing & "observing " my demise in a small plane crash & burn! Location was near a fence-line in an "outback" Aussie wheat-field - the picture is so detailed in my mind - I could make a painting of it! The cruciform outline of the plane in the dirt was distinctive as a FW! I often wondered if this was a "past-life recollection???" - a future event premonition ..or just a crazy dream!

I have been up as a passenger in a couple of small FW planes several times since with-out fear (or "premonition") ... at University to take aerial photos of our college-dorm buildings! In Canada on a flying week-end adventure in Manitoba, and a few years ago with my Mom's friend based at Stanthorpe . ( She flies Aussie Outback Tours during the Aussie winter months) She took Mum for her last fly in a plane to look around our property and the beautiful Granite Belt area - a couple of years before my Mum passed!

I had absolutely no trepidation taking these flights .... especially as the terrain /environment was not at all like my dream-scene!
Chris,

There's a large percentage of aviators that are fearful of heights, but never experience that phobia while flying, especially when they are PIC. I think that's the key.

I never felt any fear of heights while flying until the first time I took a balloon to 5,000 feet agl, standing in a little thigh-high wicker basket (standing room for three), unbelted, and with the basket swaying gently like a pendulum. I had never been so acutely aware of the mile of nothing between me and the ground. The idea of involuntarily falling out without a chute was foremost in my mind.

Hmm, I have a "natural fear" of heights.
Like, when I'm on the roof near the end.
I am afraid to focus too much on what I'm doing - and take a step too much....
Also, standing at an edge, I have the feeling that "the abyss sucks me down"...

But at 1200 feet in my MTO with the radio on, I feel safe and happy.

Interesting phenom...
When I lived in the PNW islands I discovered a large percentage of professional fisherman don't know how to swim!!!!!!!!!!!
And they go out in conditions that other boaters won't even think about..
Go figure.....

I had a commercial seaplane rating for a dozen years before I learned to swim.

A flight in a hot-air ballon in a standing position would definitely TEST me !!!
I was taking video leaning a bit out of the door-opening of a small tourist helicopter (after triple-checking my seat-belt! :sneaky: ) - when the "fear-of-heights" being non-existent when seated .... lightbulb went off for me! After that experience ...I made the vow to pursue my dream of flight in a home-built rotorcraft!

I remember talking to an AG pilot about this- not dreaming actually but wires. He said - "I never know if I can climb over them but I always know there is room to fly under em."

What about guy wires?

...very rapid 45 degree banked turn?

I started sport parachuting when I was 16, and then went on to to do another 300+ jumps, loved free-fall an never had a problem exiting...but feel extremely uncomfortable looking over the edge of a tall building

I've had these dreams as well. I posted about them years ago here and seemed like a lot of others had the same dream then as well.

I think I've had variations of this dream so often that I wonder whether it really happened! Seems like they are mixed up with some Hollywood movie scenes, and I can't be sure I've seen them on the screen or in my head or both.

Jinx'D. You folks did it. Had a wire strike dream this morning. Not me but a chopper was flying a fixed wing in on a sling, lost control coming in and hit power lines!

Never had a dream like this before...

I had a dream where I was driving my car and saw the Chinese white spy balloon looking like it was flying so low that it would almost crash into wires and poles but somehow it cleared and then I could see clearly on my windshield
