What's the status of the Dominator design?

Greetings,

I know that Ernie retired, and RFD is no more, but did the Dominator design rights get sold to anyone who will continue making them? It would be great if there were plans available, and maybe some parts like the nose pod. I'm not suggesting anyone make unauthorized plans, but rather hoping the design will continue to be available in some form.

Cheers,
Rusty

I know several people have built from plans, so they should be out there. Why don't you post in the wanted area and see if someone is willing to sell you a set? I would have included the Dominator in the list of gyro's that might be suitable for the HKS engine except that you said you weren't interested in it. Build light if you go with a Dom as it is heavier than my other suggestions.

I had a chance to look at a Dominator and Vortex together last week, and it's hard not to still be interested in the Dominator. I think every model will have good and bad points. There are lots of Dominators out there, and you seem to see them for sale more often than some models so I'm keeping an eye out.

Good suggestion for the plans. I understood that they were only offered early on, and I thought I read that the wood tail was the only one included. Maybe that's not correct, but I'm sure the plans would still be useful if I can find a set. I'd definitely want the pod, and that won't be a plans built item of course. I wonder who made those, and if they can still supply them?

Dad is retired however the Dominator Design and Dragon Wing Design are for sale. The person who bought the Dragon Wings didn’t hold his end of the contract up so said contract is void and dad retains the rights to produce Dragon Wings. He also has the right to sell said rights and designs. Anyone interested can hit me up here and I will relay information to him.

Interesting. Hopefully someone will buy the rights, and continue production, or possibly offer new plans for sale.
Thanks,
Rusty

When you buy a set of plans you buy the license to build "one" Dominator for yourself.
So getting a copy of the plans doesn't give you the right to build one, as it's the property
of Mike Boyette. Or am I wrong?
And has anyone used any other rotor than Dragon Wings?

I've been flying 25' sport rotors on my single place dominator from the start. I like them.

A number of people are now using Denis Schoemaker's Razor Blades.

Barry Thigpen uses them on his when he does displays.

This was him this last Bensen Days with the Razor Blades.

Thanks for the plug Leigh!

Yes, sales of Razor Blades is picking up very quickly, with nothing but VERY positive reviews!

Leigh (Resasi) has been instrumental with helping me get a set of Razor Blades in the hands of the CAA/LAA in the UK for their Section T testing.
We should be hearing back VERY shortly!

Shipping 2 more sets tomorrow, and I will be delivering another 2 sets when I head down to hang out with the Carolina Barnstormers In NC next week!

I am very open about letting people test a set before purchase.
I try to keep 23', 24' and 25' demo units in the trailer ready to go at any of the shows I attend!

Don't take my word for it.... Ask Ernie Boyette, Dick DeGraw, Greg Specola, Nickolas Karaolides (Aviomania) what their impression is of the quality....

Aviomania is specifying Razor Blades as their recommended rotor system for all of their single-pace machines headed to the US.

And yes.... Many sets being used on Dominators!

This year I have had them on display at Bensen Days & Sun n Fun.
Carolina Barnstormers next week..
Then Oshkosh, Mentone and Midwest Expo in Mt Vernon IL.

Give me a call.... You WILL be happy!

Denis

Even though I'm now sidelined I love the Razor Blades and more importantly the support I've gotten from Denis. These rotor blades are a thing of beauty!

PS:

I have a set of 25' Razor blades, long story, brand new still in the crate. If you are interested talk to Denis, I'll deliver for no cost within a 2 day drive from Kerrville, TX. Maybe a little further, just ask.🙂

Never used Gyro Technic products, but nonetheless grateful to them for encouraging the use of the term "blades" instead of "rotors" for gyros (long a pet peeve of mine when gyro folks seem to think they fly with more than one rotor).
