What helmet and comms are best for Gyroplanes?

Flycom helmets with Flycom patch cords, Flycom ptt, Flycom intercom. Unmatched!

There is/was a guy in Virginia that was doing some Flycom service. LW Aerospace.
我们常用的是lcom电台,配价值400$的头盔各方面也很棒!
We usually use the lcom radio station, with a $400 helmet and everything is great!

Does anyone know if there is a Flycom Rep based in the U.S. ? I have a FlyCom helmet that came with my Gyro, but the shell is too small, I was interested in transferring the guts from one to another.
Hi Tony, did you resolve your helmet size issue? I am looking at helmets and was wondering if indeed the FlyCom shell is one size? I tried on a large FlyCom helmet while at Benson Day’s and it was a little loose. Thanks.

For the record, I would like to point out these two links:
the AV2.2 model is currently being tested among the various operational squadrons, a specially prepared version is being tested by the F22 pilots

After checking here (especially a post from David McCutchin) I bought a Flycom.
Expensive, but very good. I had to remove the neoprene flap because the face shield
kept fogging up. I even still have it open until I start the takeoff run.

Is there any way I can keep the neoprene flap without the face shield fogging up?

The Flycom is expensive, but worth it. My instructor bought a cheaper MicroAvionics helmet,
and his verdict is the Flycom is better. The Gentex SPH-5's I've seen on eBay have been very, very expensive.

Cheers
Erik

It isn’t expensive. Have you priced a Bose or Lightspeed and those are just headsets. What is your hearing worth. I use Bose headsets with a modified MicroAvionics helmet shell on it. It is actually better than Flycom but comes out to be even more expensive by probably $500.

Flycom helmet shells are the same size. What changes is just the foam liner. You can take out the foam liner as it is simply Velcro secured and change it to another one from Flycom. Most people would fit Medium.

Well, I read somewhere: If you have a $5 head, buy a $5 bucket....
I'm certainly not sorry I bought the Flycom. Although a Gentex looks a lot cooler...
And I do like to hear how my engine is doing (muffled sound). I have never tried a Bose headset.

I have 2 microavionics with noise cancellation and bluetooth connectivity. It's a little tricky to get the VOX dialed in just right, but overall, very pleased with them.

I use a Flycom too. When I asked for a replacement mic they said they would only sell me 10 for $256.00. I was lucky enough to have someone reach out to me and tell me where to source the exact mic they sell. 3 delivered set me back under $20.00 So if that fits your idea of customer service....ps no service location in the US. They list one but it hasn't answered the phone in months.

There was but no more.
Ship it to England if you want service.

Yes that is the reason why I stopped dealing with Flycom. Dave Grey (the founder) retired and sold it to this company, and they are ok but their service and standing behind their warranty is questionable.

Hi Joe,

I have a couple of Flycom FH-1V helmets.

I had a mic fail. I soldered in a 2k2 ohm electret microphone and it works, but I would like a decent source. Where did you get your replacement microphones? Part number and ordering info would be great.

Thanks Joe,

Jim

I had issues with my Flycom when I got it. I sent an email to the company and after no response I removed the electronics module, installed a DC mic element and have been very happy ever since.

Does anyone make an EQ for the headsets?

This might be an unpopular opinion, but I always thought the best flying helmet is a motorcycle helmet with your earpiece and mic custom rigged inside. Motorcycle helmets are made to crash in and built to certain standards for the roads. They are far more crash tested. They are also comfortable in high winds.

I've red a couple reports of people smashing their face in accidents because of open face helmets, it probs wouldn't have been as bad with a full face helmet. (harley riders have always been smashing their faces in accidents with their open face helmets too)

Better energy absorption in a crash is great, but be sure you're not buying it with visibility reductions. Bike helmet wearers typically deal with threats at about the same height, and needn't look out for higher or lower altitude concerns very often.

In my own experience, I get a better view from my Gentex than my Shoei or my Schuberth.

I tried several helmet/headset combos. I really like my DC headset but the helmets I tried just didn't work well. When I was visiting Denis at Gyro Technic several years ago I tried his Flycom and really liked it. The integrated ear phones are nice and the fit was very good. There is some head protection in the way of foam pads.

The helmets from Flycom or MicroAvionics are rated for crashes in Airsports standard.
