I am shopping for a new helmet and headset and honestly, I don’t know which is best. Please share your thoughts and include the make, model and maybe pictures if you are able. I think this post will not only help me, but others. Thanks everyone.

In an open gyroplane wind noise can be a problem; not so much in an enclosed gyroplane.
I use a Gentex SPH-5 with the addition of active noise reduction.

A pair of Flycom helmets came with my Titanium Explorer. I am amazed at how good they work. I hear tower very clearly and they report hearing me well.

I am also impressed with how nice they damp out exterior noise without unduly squeezing my head. The full face shield with the neoprene neck guard ensures no wind noise

Flycom ...all the way!!! pricey but absolutely worth it!

They are pricey I guess. About $1000 plus shipping when last I checked. (updated 11/25/2023) $1000.00

The SPH-5 with an electret mic, gel ear seals and active noise cancelling, can be well north of $2500 from Gibson and Barnes.

For the minimalist -

Here's my favorite open cockpit helmet ( $80 from Gibson&Barnes). Works with in-the-ear headsets and nasal cannula for O2.

That's an old David Clark H10-40 headset installed.

Good question.
but WE need to know a few things about YOU before we can give any answers that will be useful for you.

What type of gyro will you be flying?
The average single seat gyro gyro will put out up to 130dB of wind/ propeller and engine noise at the pilots helmet location. Ask any audiologist what they think of that prospect, then watch their reaction.
Single or 2 seat? Tandem or side by side?(rear tandem pax is exposed to more engine noise) Open or enclosed? (engine noise exposure difference) What power plant? (914 tends to be somewhat quieter exhaust) 2 or 4 stroke? (different noise/frequency profiles)
What type of radio will you be using?
Are you tolerant of "in ear" plugs or foam inserts?

So you see, setting up a comms system correctly for rotary wing operation is not a simple thing.

Regards.....Chook.

FWIW - I'm using my Flycom in an open single place Gyro with a Rotax 912UL. I'm using a Flightline FL-760A radio. The helmet effectively gets rid of wind and engine noise. I've also used the helmet with open 2 place gyros using a Funke and also a Trig.

After checking here (especially a post from David McCutchin) I bought a Flycom.
Expensive, but very good. I had to remove the neoprene flap because the face shield
kept fogging up. I even still have it open until I start the takeoff run.

Is there any way I can keep the neoprene flap without the face shield fogging up?

The Flycom is expensive, but worth it. My instructor bought a cheaper MicroAvionics helmet,
and his verdict is the Flycom is better. The Gentex SPH-5's I've seen on eBay have been very, very expensive.

Cheers

Erik,
I leave the visor including neoprene flap open until I start the take off roll, then pull it down. It never fogs up in flight.

Does anyone know if there is a Flycom Rep based in the U.S. ? I have a FlyCom helmet that came with my Gyro, but the shell is too small, I was interested in transferring the guts from one to another.

No, you have to deal with the MFG in the UK.

Check with Nick Coleman at Flycom, but I believe all the shells are the same size and only the trauma liners change for different sizing.

Flycom helmets with Flycom patch cords, Flycom ptt, Flycom intercom. Unmatched!

There is/was a guy in Virginia that was doing some Flycom service. LW Aerospace.
