What are your OTHER hobbies???

Lately my hobby is hanging out with my good buddy Sam...Sam Adams. Oh, yeah, I play and sing a bit. I used to have a single-handed Catalina - something you sail around the world alone...but I never left the Chesapeake Bay! Hahah!. I just lived on it most warm weekends, and took pictures of bikini-clad girls that were part of my G-string Bikini contest I paraded around Washington, DC in the 90's. Oh, I used to drive a little blue VW. Here's a pic of those days. I have really quieted down. Now I just fly around, all alone, in the West Georgia area in my Blue Bee gygro. See ya at B days!

should I bring some of the left overs from the 10,000 bikini calendars I produced and sold in the 1990 to B Days? Nah...I'm just a wind bag. You wouldn't believe 1/2 of me anyways....Maybe I should tell ya the tale of where "Smoke on the Water" came from...or playin with Bob Seger when I was 16...or partyin with Ted Nugent on the weekends...nah...you'd never believe me anyways....so fuggettabbottit. I'm just a wind bag. Seriously. But here are some more pix of my winning GT1 Porsche. It's gone now. I don't have enough money to race these days. I'm older now, I gotta work for a living, and just like to relax flying my cheap little gyro. It cost as much as a motorcycle! And it flies!!!! WHat a blast. What a challenge. WHat a thrill. I am soooooo glad I found you guys, this place, this fun. I can die anytime now. I am truely happy. What else is there?

Hey, does anybody else out there enjoy chasing trains in their gyro? I used to model railroads. Now if I fly at js2ut the right alt, like 500ft, & its like a full size N-guage model railroad. THis is soooo much fun. I did it again 2day. I really gotta watch my time and fuel when I find a good train to chase. This one had 3 locos in front, and 2 pushers at the rear! COOOOOL!!! I should start vidding train chasin'.

ALL my other hobbies are now on the back burner due to gyro addiction.
Also, I spent ALL (+) my money trying to get commercial on them. (no giving up yet)
So: fishing, hunting have been out for quite some time (fishing last july 4th 97)
But I am back on the dating scene, good hobby, kinda expensive today and Basketball Officiating (paying hobby)
Can´t play with my guns (2 carbines, 2 shotguns, 2 revolvers) there is a ban law in effect and the ammendments for registration are not in place yet.
Guns are a fascinating subject and I use to have books on them, balistic, heraldic and I think I still have one about WWII weapons. I like semi auto pistols, think assault rifles should be in the hands of the military only.
Misuse of guns are a big problem, pair to abuse of alchool they are the main killers of young people.
Bullets and words have similar effects when out of the mouth, they can hurt and destroy.
But it is a good hobby if kept under control.

Well, let's see...
I used to fish and scuba dive a lot, but not since moving back to NW Georgia. I suppose Music, Flying and Hiking take up my spare time these days....does work count as a hobby?

The band is playing a lot this time of the year around and about the Atlanta area... just played Nik's Place in Marietta and will be at the Caves May 3rd.

Hobbies? We don't need no stinking hobbies.

Hobbies? We don't need no stinking hobbies.

Ham radio. I can't wait to see how it works from the air!

Paul,

At just over 100 hrs stick time I tend to apply most of my effort to flying, but did try the 2mtr HT. You don't have to be very high to hit a lot of repeaters. I carry it on most of my cross-countries, as there are a lot of places out here where there is no cell-phone coverage, but you can hit one of the mountain top repeaters if you had to park unexpectedly.
:focus:

Concerning other hobbies. . .
I dabble in too many things. Guns (including black powder), music (play several instruments), cameras (even sold a few pictures), Outdoor activities (skiing, cycling, motorcycles, boating<paddle and sail>, hiking/camping, HAM radio, RC models, etc., etc., etc.)
Went cross-country (Nordic) skiing yesterday. Last day of spring skiing around here this year.
Learning to play the Great Highland Bagpipe. Great way to win friends and influence enemies. :D

Rocky,

Once, while travelling to the Dayton Hamvention with a group of other hams who worked for the airlines, we were booked on an airliner with an empty first-class section. Just before we taxied out, the flight attendant came back and quietly asked us to follow her. Long story short, she moved us all up to the first-class section, something about weight-and-balance. (Yeah, right - more to do with my friend's connections!)

Anyhow, during climbout, she came back and said the captain had determined we could safely use our handheld radios on low power once the plane reached cruising altitude. VHF didn't work so well, but 440 was great through the small windows at 38,000 feet. What a hoot!

I want to experiment someday with taking a small, emergency repeater up in the gyro, to assess the value of the tactic for emergency communications. Out west here, nature's threats include earthquakes and volcanic events, both of which could render lots of tower-based infrastructure useless for a few days after a disaster.

Mathew have you ever tried reloading your own ammo? My Dad is also a gun smith and has his own little shop and does his own reloading. That is art and a hobby in its self. My Dad loves guns also and has many. I go with him once in a wail and get to shoot some of his guns. After a shoot we go around and pick up the brass and he then goes home and reloads them. He shows me what is good to pick up and what is not. He has many what he calls recipes to different types of ammo. He used to have adds in gun magazines for these recipes for sale.

My shelf I love the outdoors, anything to do outdoors is fun to me. I used to be into horses because they are the ultimate trail ride. I went places around my home that would be difficult for any bike, jeep or even on foot to get to, but on a horse we made our own trails. Once I got into flying 3 years back I gave up the horse and replaced him with a jeep. Now I can go further up the trails around my house and see further then before. But I do miss my horse sometimes. What is nice to see is the trails that I and my horse blazed are being used to this day by others.

Now if you want to include thing's that I used to do .
Before getting married to my lovely wife and having my will to live snatched from me .
There was Skydiving .
Scuba diving .
Hunting .
Owning antique planes .
Going to Air Show's .
Having Friends .
Chasing women .
Catching women .
Having fun .
Being with friends and having fun .
Shooting trap .
Shooting service rifle matches .
My Harley .
Riding my Harley .
Thing's like that .

I´ve done some reloading, but only shoot cartridges.
I did some studies for a bullet that would melt and never exit for tight shots in sniper situations . . . I was 14 or something . . .weird isn´t it?
I used saw dust to load my shots, even dispersion and no risk of fire on the dry brush.
It is impossible to calculate the number of times I fired a weapon, counting hunting, target practice/competition and military.
Still want to dischar an auto or sub machine gun.
AK 47 would be nice!
I think all started with kite building and going out with the big guys to watch U control models fly . . .way to long ago.

other hobbies.........my work......and...my family!

I have many other hobbies and I guess if I rank them all in order of importance to me ( at the momment )

1. Dirt bike riding ( I have a 2002 Yamaha WR250F and liked it so much I bought a 1999 Suzuki RM250 motorcross bike to ride also ) I am really enjoying riding, I look forward to going riding more than flying or anything else right now. It is challenging, and a good workout and fun. I normally ride at a place called Carolina Adventure World, look it up on the web, awesome place!

2. Flying ( I have as most know here, a two place Dominator gyro.... a single place scratch built gyro of my own design... and a two place Titan Tornado II airplane. If I got somewhere far to go ( more than 50 miles ) or got to get there and back quick I take the plane, but I do enjoy the raw flying better in the gyro. )

3. Remote control airplanes and helicopters ( I have a fleet of RC planes and 2 helicopters. I am still learning helicopters, I can fly them around right side up no problem, but still working on " nose in hovering " and working into aerobatics. I have a bunch of high powered electric models, and recently got into electric pylon racers.... one of the ones I have goes 135 mph on fly bys, the other goes 164 mph on fly bys! Sometimes I go out to the airport and don't even pull the plane or gyro out, I will just spend the afternoon hanging out with the other guys at the airport and fly models )

4. Jet skiing ( I have had a ton of boats and jet skis over the years, but sold the last boat back in 2002 and went without a watercraft for a few years, then when we had a bad heatwave in late 2006 I went out and bought a 3 seat runabout Kawasaki jet ski. I had so much fun on it and liked the ease of trailering.... the good fuel economy it gets... the fun of driving it... and ease of cleaning and storage. I found a good deal on a old Kawasaki JS550 stand up only jet ski and tried it out early last summer and got hooked and ended up by mid summer buying a nearly new 2004 Kawasaki SRX800 stand up ski that has been hotrodded and tricked out. Riding it is a challenge and huge fun and I look forward to this summer and getting back on the lake. )

5. Motorcycling ( have had a ton of bikes, and lately I have not had the time or desire to really do alot of street bike riding. But I do have a bike and when the mood strikes me I pull it out and go for a ride, usually out to the airport.... but I do like to do at least one good ride up to the NC mountains each year and do a few hundred miles riding the Blue Ridge parkway and some of the other twisty mountain roads.

There is alot of other hobbies I would like to get into at some point. Hang gliding.... skydiving.... driving a race car of some sort.... And I would like to do some traveling, especially a tour of the US in a RV. Every hobby I enjoy seems to require gasoline :)

Maybe I can get a scanner to put in some pics of some of my other interests (before I got a digital camera). But it boils down to this:
boats - 100 mph water ski flatbottom kept that boat for 23 years, sailboats; sunfish in the Philippines, a Cal 25 in Puerto Rico, and now a Lighting and a canoe for this summer, motorcycles mostly dirt bikes but a goldwing and now a 883 sportster thrown in, flying - a citabria and a grunman AA1b, an Aircreation funracer 503 trike and 2 gyros in the build phase (for quite a while now), and the thing that kept me busy for 20 years in Nevada gold prospecting. Made gold by the pound not ounce at one point for a couple of guys that were good at finding it. Wish I still had my share to sell today.

Lately I've really gotten into home brewing. I'll be bringing 18 bottles of my home-brewed India Pale Ale down to Bensen Days for all to enjoy (while it lasts). Just tonight before packing to leave for BD's (leaving tomorrow) I bottled 5 gallons of Nut Brown Ale.

Anyone here like to Metal Detect? I like to go to old locations and find old relics, coins and what ever else I can find. There are actually hunts you can go to where they plant items such as coins and tokens for prizes. It's a lot of fun and you can actually find some very valuable stuff.

Wow!

You guys are into some incredibly COOL, and also incredibly EXPENSIVE hobbies!

That's pretty cool!

When I was younger, I used to have a metal detector for finding 'treasure'... I think in my entire lifetime of detecting, I've found an old pair of RayBan sunglasses, a watch, a time capsule from the 60's, about $1.85 in coins, and a rare old Buffalo Nickel that was worth a fair bit.

I used to ride dirt bikes when I was younger, and I miss it a lot...

You guys are into some incredibly cool fun!

mine are kind of strange,
1: gyro flying and spreading the bug feever
2: sailboat but has been on hold for 6 years.
3: politiics and airport lobbing meetings.

and the recent one that gives me the most pleasure is collecting aluminum cans.

yes ,
coorslight
budweiser
medalla
samuel adams etc

Amature Astronomy (I have a computer controlled ETX-90 hope to get a DOB)

Photography (nature, Aeriel)

Minor:

R/C electric choppers

MMPG (WOW) and general network gaming

WWII history and artifacts

If anyone's interested... Lucid dream research/practice, songwriting/recording, play drums & keyboards, collect rubber chickens, make my own neck ties, am a huge James Randi fan ( www.randi.org ) and chuckle at www.timecube.com

*I am a big fan of the Amazing Randy, the JRF and Penn and Teller!

Anyone here like to Metal Detect? I like to go to old locations and find old relics, coins and what ever else I can find. There are actually hunts you can go to where they plant items such as coins and tokens for prizes. It's a lot of fun and you can actually find some very valuable stuff.

**Scott, I do some coin shooting from time to time. I started by getting a detector to hunt for nickel-iron meteorites. I have sold off most of my detectors but I still have one very nice vintage one I like the sound and range of and I have a couple of nice coils I use.

That said... Since I started flying all of my other hobbies have suffered greatly...
