Looks like vertical axis lead-lag damper cans, as in the earliest Hughes 269 or McCulloch J-2 rotor heads, from what I can discern. The dampers are rotated 90 degrees in the later ones (axis in-plane).

That gyro was for sale a couple of years back. Not sure if it sold or where it is.
