User Error or Major Problem?

When I try to use a link to an older post inside a post and that link points to a url using the "old" syntax like:
https://www.rotaryforum.com/forum/ar...p/t-33810.html
I get an error message like the one below. Am I making some sort of mistake or is the archive indeed currently not available?
If the latter is the case, will access to the archive be restored? If not that would be a terrible blow, since I get the same error
message when I search the rotaryforum via google.

Hope that this problem is corrected soon, together with others... The 'new' forum isn't working OK... It's to be feared that what began as a minor 'virus infiltration' may be the end of the RWF.

It's good to know, Javier, that I am not the only one who considers this a major issue. I wonder when we will be informed about how and when the forum admins intend to tackle the problem. Having worked in IT for quite some time I would have expected that the question of data migration is solved before you buy any update from a software provider.

The problem described in post #1 does not seem to be solved. I still consider this the most serious issue after the update and would like to know what priority it has on the admin's to do list.... or whether it actually *is* on the list, or isn't it????

When I try to open the database 'Technical papers, books and publications' I get the following message:

Invalid Page URL. If this is an error and the page should exist, please contact the system administrator and tell them how you got this message.

Any help, or any comments, at least...?

Please try the link below, Javier, it worked for me.
https://www.rotaryforum.com/forum/rotorcraft/technical-papers-books-and-publications/

Unfortunately all the links inside the different entries are still not working, like the one inside Chuck's fine article:
https://www.rotaryforum.com/forum/r...s-books-and-publications/46903-rotor-airfoils

These URLs currently don't work. A data migration should be possible. Wonder when it will be done!

Thanks, kolibri282...! It works for me too... It seems that not everything is lost...

The current .htaccess rules produce errors when using /forum/ as a rewrite base, however if you use http://www.rotaryforum.com/showthread.php?t=45756 it will work correctly.

Hi cshier, that does the trick, thank you for the hint!! It should be two lines, or so, of code to check all incoming requests via e.g. a regular expression and then change the URL to the correct form automatically. Until that day we have to relay on manual labour... ;-)

So the sequence is: you search something eg. via Google and get a URL like this:

https://www.rotaryforum.com/forum/ar...hp/t-9419.html

which gives the error in post #1. Next by deleting "/forum" (sans double quotes) you change it to

https://www.rotaryforum.com/archive/...hp/t-9419.html

mark it and select "Open Link in New Tab" (or you simply change it in the URL line of your browser) and it works!

Thanks again, I feel very, very relieved that there is a workaround!

PS: I still have trouble with my signature line, which appears or disappears magically. Do you have a solution regarding adding or omitting the signature line reliably as well?

That of deleting '/forum' is a valuable discovery...
Little by little, and thanks to your help, I'm slowly finding my way here...
Many thanks to all helpers around...!

I wish to thank the very informative posts of many members of the RWF in the course of many years. By reading them in this forum, I learned many things about gyros...

Now I'm sorry to say that this forum has become so hard to use that it's difficult to get useful information anymore. With the new format, most of what I get is frustration...

Disasters happen, unfortunately. And this has been a big one...

My regards to all... Thanks again...

A few die-hards ... plod on ... :yo: ... yes I find it SO much easier to use FB for my photo uploads ...daily "blog" reports ...I'm so sad that all the great material here (& my own gyro journey/adventures) is now so less accessible / attractive to newcomers .... & so went the ASRA forum ...when they upgraded! :censored::Cry:
