This is probably not a new topic for some of you, and a total surprices for others...

A lot of us utilize echoUAT as our ADS-B Out/In equipment - it is a fantastic piece of gear, but there are some updates that the manufacturer is doing, and those affect us.

Read details here: https://uavionix.com/articles/echouat-exp-service-bulletin-04-2024/

I filled in their form quite a while ago and it took ages before they acknowledged it, so silence doesn't mean they're ignoring you. Haven't received the little add on doohickey yet though.

I have applied for & registered both my personal & "For-Sale" inventory TAGs ...and got the email-acknowledgments!

We are all still waiting... I just hope they keep producing the echoUAT...
I've been waiting for 6 months for them to manufacture a new echoUAT. Talked with them several times, its time to move on. Anyone have any reasonable priced alternatives that work with a mode S Funke?

Latest communication to me on April4th ....

"Thank you for your patience over the past 2 months as we completed testing and put the final touches on the echoALT before shipping. The response to our echoAlt announcement has been great and we are grateful to you for choosing uAvionix as your ADS-B solution.

We are pleased to announce that initial echoALT units are now shipping!

We will continue to roll out and increase shipments over the next few months as we work through the most affected installation configurations and environments.

If you have already submitted a form and chose to receive an echoALT, you will receive a separate shipping confirmation email when your unit is dispatched. This email will include tracking information so you can monitor the progress of your shipment.

Thank you for your continued patience and support.
Cheers,

Team uAvionix"

I talked to a rep during Sun'n Fun, and he said prety much what the e-mail says... Starting to ship units out by the end of April.

Alternative unit in the same price range? Well, there is a reason why we have not moved on yet, there isn't anything that woudl give you the capabiloities of the echoUAT.

You can get the SkyBeason + SkySensor and get the same capabilities for $1200 extra, and the hasle of replacing your nav lights.

You can get Garmin GTX45 transponder with ADSB IN/OUT. It requires high density pin outs whose tool for crimping alone costs $600 and the cost of the transponder is $4800 and it is 7 inches wide and 13 inches long and weighs 3 times as uAvionix echoUAT and SkyFx.

As of today, the echoUAT does not appear on the website.

I was told today by uavionix that they won't be selling new units to amateur builders any longer, only OEM aircraft manufacturers.
The quick easy solution but cost more ($2100 ADSB out) is the skybeacon which is like changing the red position light and a few clicks on your phone with their app. ADSB in is $750 more with the other position light install. This is for mode C transponders. I have a Funke with mode S as some of you do. The solution I found was to go into setup mode on the Funke transponder and eliminate the mode S. It will still transmit mode A (squawk code) and C (pressure altitude) there is no longer a need for mode S with ADSB providing much of the same info.

I think they are not selling it to end users any more. I can still get them.

Hi Dick,

I have a Funke TRT800H-LCD in my TAG. I also have an EchoUAT paired with a SkyFYX.

I did a public ADS-B performance report request recently and the system said it could not find info.

I show up on Flight Aware, and my local ATC (under the PHX class B) has not indicated a problem.

Should I disable Mode S?

Jim

A couple of things to remember. The sky beacon and the sky sensor. Does not work well with a gyroplane. The GPS signals do not travel through Carbon Fiber very well. Uavionix says not to mount any of their equipment within 6ft of a Rotax due to ignition interference.

Thanks Brent,
All my Uavionix stuff is more than 6 feet from the engine. I'm familiar with Mode S, but wonder if it is compatible with the EchoUAT. I'm not aware of any reason for interference, but thought I would ask.

Jim

I have the same Funke transponder in my MTO. I had to turn off Mode S to make it work with my Echo.
Once I did, it works fine.
