Two new Gyro Students over the Cape

Kevin Purcell and his bud Christo Swart decided to try a gyro ..Christo was doing his Ppl at a local school where the owner is known for being difficult and like many before him told the school owner they don’t need his attitude ..🫢😳 they walked over to my hangar and enquired about this strange flying contraption. As always its is my pleasure to take guys up for there intro flight, they have now both made application for the Gyro SPL and are looking to purchase a machine.

People with bad attitudes are not needed in society, sadly we have them in all walks of life.

We do.

I had an Instructor that shouted and got upset. After third flight, I began heading back to the airport, He asked what I thought I was doing. My reply was getting another Instructor. He asked why and I told him he was wasting my money and his time as I did not learn well that way.

He asked if we could start over. I said I was willing to see how that went. He altered his Instructional technique and it went well after that.

I remember taking lessons for my PPSEL training. My instructor started cussing me out for wondering off the runway centerline...then we took off and he was cussing me about straight and level....I just folded my arms and told him to take me back to the airport. He flew it back and when I got out I told him I was not paying for cussing out sessions....he apologized and I told him he works for me...and if he wants a job...then behave like he wants it. He saw me through to my check ride.

I have had between 30 to 40 cfi's and they all have perosnalities. I don't mind the "gruff old military" types...
What I can't stand is the insecure quiet young girls who want to be airline pilots building time. They are nice to look at, but rarely have any information to add and are quite uselsss. If I am trying to learn something there has to be a student teacher respect level...
This policy of time building for ATP that is fostered by the FAA system is bass ackwards.
I do not trust one of them to get us down safely in an emergency. Sad.

One of my best instructional experiences ever was with a young (at the time) woman CFI teaching me acro in a glider in Arizona. Patient, fearless, unflappable, ever calm and helpful, as I figured out and sometimes messed up cuban 8s, bunts, hammerheads, Immelmanns, aileron rolls, inverted turns, etc. High on my list of heroes.

She went on to win 3rd at the '87 World Glider Acro but was denied the medal because of her gender. Fourth place man refused to accept the award and gave it to her. They dropped the gender rules after that incident.
