My Gyro little heavy for 103 and existing engine has no id tag. probably have to get new engine or one with documentation. I think with newer engine and parts make light and not deal with experimental certify. I posted before about putting this engine on air boat no id tag reason for that.

There are many experimental amateur built (EAB) aircraft with an unknown engine listed on the FAA database.

In my opinion there is no need for a data tag on the engine.

Based on my limited I suspect that EAB is the easiest path to legal.

Making it meet weight and performance limitations and only having five gallons of gas reads like more trouble to me.

You can make the data plate for your engine if you wish. You can give the engine the same serial number as the aircraft if you like.
If you go ultralight, the only requirements are to comply with part 103.

Experimentals (EAB), including their engines can be built/fabricated/assembled even from junk (miscellaneous parts).
