TacoCopter

San Francsico based 'Tacocopter' have ordered no less than 60 robotic quad-copters which are to be used to make home deliveries of Mexican food throughout the San Franciso area.

The computer controlled helicopter, once loaded with its cargo, will fly using GPS coordinates provided by the customer's phone. The quad-copters will then identify a location outside the building (using constantly up-dated Google Earth maps) where it will establish a hover at a pre-set height above the ground. Once hovering outside the customer's house the quad-copter will activate an automated voice call to the customer advising them that their delivery has arrived. Customers will then be given two digit numerical code which they must enter on their phone and which will release the food package.

Having released its package the quad-copter will return to the restaurant rooftop where Tacocopter owner, Ned O'Flaherty, is planning to keep a 'nest' of the rotary robots.

San Francisco Major, Ed Lee, said that should Tacocopter's newfangled service prove successful, he would encourage San Francisco's numerous China Town restaurants to copy Tacocopter's model citing the initiative as a "ground breaking force in home delivered food" and an "environmental revolution" which would reduce the city's carbon emissions.

Hi Dave good post! Finally a real use for robots for the masses.
I bet it creates a new kind of crime... Robot taco napping?

So now the homeless will be carrying a long pole with a net to acquire food?
Or a garden hose with a high pressure nossle?

Wonder how many of those things will get stolen. And while the miscreants are chowing down on the tacos, they're disassembling it to sell the plans to any nation on the Western Pacific Rim? Or to some unfriendly middle eastern nation? I'm surprised that Homeland Security hasn't been all over this innovation. :suspicious:

Looking toward the future it would make sense to move more products around like this instead of using a 300 hp Hemi to get a take-out coffee..... but if we need robots to bring food from the refrigerator to the sofa .... maybe we've gone too far .... or have we ....

The future is arriving faster than we can keep up .... the "Dick Tracy 2-Way Wrist Radio " was in the realm of the science fiction comic book writers in 1946 ..... yet today much of the world walks around like Zombies staring into an electronic device in their hands ....

Especially the teenagers , it is like they require a handheld computer to tell them ... who they are ... where they are .... where they are going ... and to communicate to the person often seated right beside them .... and to look up the meaning of the word Zombies ..... :)

Now we can hit a button and get a taco delivered .... not sure whether to be amazed or be afraid of what else can be delivered this way.

I think I will just ask my computer .......

How long does one of these fly on one battery load? 30 mins? How fast? Maybe 10-15 mph? How big is the SF-Bay area?

Yup. I heard that they have to stop making baseball bats, because someone might disassemble one and sell the plans to someone on the Western Pacific rim or unfriendly Middle Eastern nation that could put them on the belts of a militant or policeman as a weapon!!!

Who is libel when a pizzaCopter collides with a tacoCopter collides with a FedexCopter over a condominium complex?
