As many of you know, I have been keeping a database of Eurotub fatalities for many years, and I believe I have captured all fatal accidents since 2001.
I like to analyse the data in diverse ways.
So here's a quite instructive histogram...
For about half of all fatals, I have reliable hours for the deceased pilot [gyro-only, not including other types, if any]
That's a very good sample of the total. [There is also the leading German pilot, not shown, who had over 11,000 hours]
The message seems clear:-
Below 150 hours in gyros, be VERY, VERY careful...
On a happier note, while 2024 is not yet out, we've only had 1 fatal so far this year in a Eurotub.
That's the fewest fatalities since 2006 [touch-wood]. Sadly, after I wrote this, there was fatality in South Africa. With 2 fatalities this year, it's still the fewest since 2010...
Fly safe, my friends, and cautiously enjoy these wonderful machines...
