I'm trying to get the most out of my Rotax 447, but I'm having trouble finding a good maximum flying RPM figure. I know the factory says that 6800 is max RPM, but is this RPM ok to hold while flying? Other figures I've seen are 6500, and even as low as 6250!?! Now, once I get that down, how many RPM can I figure flying will add to my static RPM? Any insights, and/or real world experience would be appreciated.

Adam, interesting question. First off , for my 447, the RPM setting is 6250 !

Some times while flying, At Bensen days, my tack was rolling on up to almost 7000. This concerns me so I cut the throttle a bit. But when the prop is unloaded like this I have to cut back quite a bit.

As soon as she is back to the airport, I will try adding a bit of pitch(IVO) & see what I can come up with.

So you will overun the 6250 while flying .

Good rule of thumb is to pitch the prop to show 6500 RPM while on the ground tied to a tree. In the air the engine will pick up another 1-2 hundred RPM
