Starting My Bee finally!

You can't get longer threads; 3/8 is the standard. It's OK; I was just pointing out one of those little finicky things you have to deal with.

Three washers is OK. Put one under the head and two under the nut (or get the next size shorter -- your choice).
No, I mean there is 3 washers under the head and three under the Nut! thats how long the bolt came. I ordered the right ones but they didnt seem to fit properly. I just tried to call you but I think your wife answered, I was gonna ask you about what I should do about that, I just drilled most of the mast, I only have the (4) 1/4" rotor head cheek plate holes to drill and Im done with the mast, also the keel, I drilled the seat brace holes on the top of the keel instead of the side, careless mistake, so I have to order a new keel? or can I cut an 1/8 plate and bolt it on where the hole is.

Jason: If you have all the other holes drilled in the keel, then, yes, you'll have to replace it. Holes right in line and on adjacent faces are a serious no-no. They weaken the tube too much.

As for the bolts, yes, six washers is too many. Each AN "dash" number is 1/8or two regular washers. If your current bolts are too long, go down one "dash" number. If you have AN 3-26A now, get some -25A's. I think we switched to those for our AEROTEC hardware kits after awhile, for just this reason.

Just to confuse you more, the correct length in AN4 really IS -26A for this type of assembly! You'll use this size for your rotor head plates, angle brace attachments, etc.

I'm glad you reached my ladyfriend when you called. She's never there when I call...

lol, your ladyfriend? haha Ok, I will order a new keel and will use the an3-25a's instead of the 26's. Damn thats a real bummer that I gotta order some new ones. O well, I will keep u posted

Jason. I think Doug mentioned......"You can't get longer threads; 3/8 is the standard" If the bolt is too short...step up to the next length...but you might have to use a washer or two.

Jason, don't feel too bad about messing up your keel. We've all done it. At least it's the cheapest of the main tubes.

Keep your old keel tube. You now have the beginnings of your precious "gyro junk box." All those scrapped-out parts and wrong-size bolts are invaluable for setups and little projects after you "finish" your bird.* A good junk box saves you money, but, more important, it saves you a week or more of waiting for supplies for your latest brainchild.

*You never really finish a gyro.

Still No work on the bee, Have to buy new keel and seat braces as I messed up the braces carelessly. And I drilled the seat brace and drag strut holes on the wrong side of the tubing; more aluminum being aquired damn this sucks. I have used the scrap angle to make the diagonal and horizontal braces for the fuel tank mount. Not so much going to waste in the end. What to do with the old keel...hmmm I have been thinking on tail choices and am most likely to go with the Air Command style tail. Simple because the whole thing is a rudder not any hinges involved. I also like the look of it as well. Waiting for more funds...Sister got me a job telemarketing for a mortgage company @ 8.50 hr. Mon-Thur. 4-9 and to top it off I got kicked out of school for 3 weeks. damn damn damn, I am never gonna have enough credits to finish High school

Don't sweat it until you miss-drill a hole in a 60 million $ 767! OOPS!
Just consider it "practice".

And stay in school! No skate boarding in the hallway!

Krew,

You’ve shown good drive and work ethic in you gyro endeavors. I’m impressed with your accomplishments.
I must say though, even if I seem dogmatic SCHOOL IS JOB ONE!

Finish High school with good grades = MONEY for college = good job = MONEY for gyros and brighter future. Don't blow it Bro!!!
