Sport Pilot Practical Test

I'll post more later but did the oral this morning. Then later today we did the flight test. Chilly but Ron has heated vests, toasty warm. Windy, gusty but a great day. More later when I have time to write it up but I'm a Certificated Sport Pilot!

How do you spell awesome?

Congratulations Bobby. I know there were bumps along the way but I'm very happy for you.

AS someone who had my fair share of "BUMP"s along the way to becoming a certificated pilot (October 2014) ...I offer you HEARTY CONGRATULATIONS!

It's a GREAT feeling to hold that paper - after Ron's testing! He is truly a GEM!

I'm home, what a great trip I had to Searcy. On the way home while I was on I-30 headed toward Dallas, Google trips redirected me off the Freeway to Texas Highway 19. I was driving along and saw a sign for Canton - I remembered that Tom has a new place near there so I texted him. He texted directions back and I made a flying lunch stop, got a tour of the home and hangar, and headed home.

After I was approaching 60 hrs of solo time I was planning to take my practical test. I contacted a CFI near me to arrange for the 2 hr pretest training endorsement in a two place Gyro and confirmed that I could take the test in my single place Aviomania. As we approached the date of training the CFI called and indicated that he would not be able to do the training. It wasn't clear why!

I contacted Craig McPherson at Blue Skies Gyros and we discussed the training. He indicated that he had a training session setup for 21 Oct that could include my test prep! I was able to get in 6 hours of flight training, with Craig and also Matt Stouffer. Matt went over all of the practical test requirements and we discussed the testing process. We also discussed my taking the flight test in my single place vs taking it in a 2 place like I had just trained in. I decided to stick with the 2 place for the test.

I wanted to do the practical test as soon as possible so I contacted Ron Menzie (Ron's Gyros) the following Monday and setup the test 30 Oct. I was concerned about the weather so I contacted Ron and he indicated that he had heated flight jackets! We changed the date to 31 Oct due to rain forecast for that day in Searcy.

I made the 10 hr trip to Searcy, AR and met Ron the next day for my test. I did the oral test in the morning, we went to lunch and came back and did the flight test. The wind was not optimal but I was able to get the maneuvers down in spite of the cross wind.

After more than 3 years since my first flight with Tom Duncan, I have my Sport Pilot Certificate.

Thanks to everyone who helped me along the way. What a great adventure this has become!
