I was told someone built an exhaust system from motorcycle mufflers.
Any pictures or exact muffler model?
Does it quiet the gyro?
The age old question:
How do your quiet down the Modified Raf/Sparrowhawk?

Thank you in advance.

Motorcycle mufflers seem to be fairly basic designs, all the clever work is in the pipes from the engine to them. The thing is, though, that I've generally found car mufflers to be a lot cheaper than motorcycle mufflers - I'm assuming you're running a Subaru? There should be a lot of those mufflers about - you could even try Craigslist or whatever for one of the local guys who have "upgraded" the muffler on their WRX :)

Here is a link to one sweet sounding 1/2 vw with what looks like a motorcycle muffler. No details though.

We used super trap mufflers. You could remove or add discs to tune the power. I ran one simply for the reduction in sound. Jerrie Barnett used a clamp on baffle that looked like a hatchet. His method reduced the sound too. Keep in mind most of your noise will be from the prop.

The Supertrapp mufflers (2) on the SparrowHawk were both loud and had a tendency to shed parts through the propeller.

The original RAF muffler is relatively quiet and has provisions for carburetor heat. They are not known for their longevity.

A muffler for a four cylinder Lycoming or Continental could easily be modified for your Subaru. Some are loud and some are not bad.

Noise and horsepower are often not directly related.

In my experience an engine with an overhead cam will be louder than a push rod engine with the same exhaust.
