Finally got the clearance from the NTSB and FAA to do whatever with the gyro that I had the unfortunate pleasure of crashing back in June. Someone at some point in the gyro's history used Red RTV silicone to seal up the fuel level sending unit in the fuel tank and a chunk of that RTV let loose and got sucked up into the fuel line and got caught in the inlet to the fuel filter, which starved the engine of fuel flow during takeoff, resulting in a loss of power... Trying to do a 180 to get back to the runway I clipped power lines and gyro got flipped and tossed to the ground.

I will try to post some pictures to this thread today, but essentially here is the good and bad.

Engine is good, no damage whatsoever. Lycoming O-320 150hp, with a little less than 300 hours since overhaul.

Prop on engine good with no damage whatsoever. Spare brand new prop never installed also good.

Electric heavy duty pre rotator system with electronic soft start system, in good working condition.

Airframe is complete, but bent up. Mast is bent and folded over at the top. The frame COULD be straightened and repaired, but not sure how easily. Everything attached to the airframe is good though.... Seats, fuel cell, control system, rudder pedals, fiberglass bodywork, Matco brakes, Landing gear, wheels and tires, Intercom, instruments, switches, relays, electrical system, etc.... all in good condition. Rudders will need work to straighten bends and work to reattach.

Also has a pair of helmets with com system, some spare hardware, spare engine starter and some other odds and ends.

This could make for a good project, or a good parts donor for a new build, or would be a good source of parts for any other twinstar owner.

Accepting any reasonable offer... and don't be afraid to make whatever offer you want, worst I can say is no. I can say right now that if someone offered 10 grand for everything that would be acceptable.

Here is the gyro from the ad the previous owner had for it. https://www.rotaryforum.com/threads/miss-gidget-twinstarr-gyro-up-for-sale.1122446/

That sucks. Cannot use RTV in fuel system. For sealing threads use loctite 565 or similar

Sorry to hear about the mishap Ron, glad you're OK.

Glad you can and did write about it Ron. We can all learn valuable information from that. Makes me hurt to hear it though. Twinstar broke my right little finger once so I can relate a "tiny" bit. Hand propping that baby is tough, "don't try this at home" tough. Hope it all works out for you buddy.

Why did you not have a redundant second fuel supply? (Outlet from tank , second filter, and stand alone second pump) every gyro I have flown has a redundant fuel ( or as the Germans refer to it a boost pump configuration)
