Guys, please explain to me the reasoning behind someone selling an N numbered gyro, but deciding to sell it without the N number.:noidea: This makes no sense to me, and I have never, ever heard of this practice until I read about on this forum. Some sellers on this forum even feel that it is necessary to state that the N number will stay with the aircraft when it is sold. Is this practice that common here? I've never asked a seller if the N number stays with an aircraft I was buying, nor have I every been asked the question by a buyer of an aircraft that I am selling. It seems to be a no brainer to me, unless in the rare case that a person has some sentimental attachment to an N number, then, maybe I could understand it, but not as a condition of normal business.

Speaking for me, personally, any aircraft that I bought that did not have an N number would barely be worth the sum of its parts. And I'm not looking to buy one. I was just dumbfounded when I saw this practice.

Do some sellers believe that they have some liability or somesuch because the aircraft is registered?

This is very two sided, some feel it is necessary, others feel it is the worst thing you could do.

I feel that removing the paperwork will do nothing but put the machine into a state of being nothing but parts and greatly devalues the gyro. To get N numbers on an experimental aircraft that has been deregistered is almost impossible.

Yes, Heath is correct, this has been discussed many times over here on the forum, search around and you can find a lot to read about it.
