I just learned that our dear friend John Nagle (Austin TX) ...passionate aviator of many modes ...& had a special passion for rotorcraft ...died yesterday with 5 others in the tragic crash of the Vietnam-era Huey out in WV!
Heartfelt empathy loving thoughts and prayers to his beloved daughter ANNA, wife SOOHYIN and step-sons.
Another heartbreaking loss for our rotorcraft community.
John sold his beloved green MTO sport, some years ago & looked forward to his business allowing him to buy another - one day! He LOVED his big cross-country flights and was a trusted FERRY PILOT ...for gyro's that needed to get to new owners across several states!
So sad!

Sorry to hear about Mr. Nagle. Information on the crash is still sketchy. The pilot was from here.

Oh no. I heard about this crash but I had no idea John was in it. 5 people died in that Huey. That is really really sad news. John was a good acquaintance, an IT developer and a passionate gyroplane pilot. Him and his wife visited me and we had dinner together and I have chatted with him multiple times.
My prayers for his wife and family. I hope he RIP and pray that his family has the patience and courage to bear this tremendous loss. To me personally I lost a good aviation and IT friend.
Hope you fly the blue skies on the other side John.

When John and his wife Sooh Yin flew to SoCal in his MTO. I helped arrange hanger space at Van Nuys Airport with Rotor FX for John. Both great people! MY deepest condolences to Sooh Yin, Anna, and the rest of the family and friends.

So sorry to hear this news. Had the pleasure of meeting John a few years back in Hammond, LA. He was ferrying a gyro and stopped by for a break. My sincere condolences to his wife & family.

I heard the bad news at 3 am this morning. I spoke with John last week about Norman Surplus' book and reference he made to the dinner we took him to in Georgetown, TX with Soohyin at Gumbo's. Sorry he is gone!

What a great guy John was! Had dinner with him and Sooyhin a few years ago when they visited Orlando. Gone way to soon.
My sincere condolences.

One of the passengers was Kevin Warren. Kevin was a Professor at Vanderbuilt University and CFI fixed wing and rotorcraft and a local for us here in Tennessee. gonna miss him showing up on Saturdays for lunch with us.

If so that would be an absolutely useless risk taken
I feel it is premature to speculate with so little information.

When I recently flew in West Virginia just 35 miles north east of the crash site; we had a long discussion about emergency landings. The hills are steep and heavily forested. The wires are often strung from ridgeline to ridgeline and the wires near the ground run very near the roads.

John Nagle was rated as a Private Pilot, Rotorcraft-Helicopter.

Donald Sandhoff was rated as a Commercial Pilot, Rotorcraft-Helicopter and Instrument Helicopter.

Kevin Warren was rated as a Commercial Pilot, Rotorcraft-Helicopter.

I suspect they all knew something about wire strike avoidance.

Well I do not want to speculate but N98F surely hit wires flying very low. That's not speculation. That's a fact. NTSB preliminary report will be out in a couple of weeks
