I'm looking for a belt or gear type redrive for use on a Subaru EJ22 engine to be installed in a Falcon Gyro. Any and all leads much appreciated! I'm located in Colorado and am new to the forum. I would love to make contact with other local gyro pilots and builders.

Steve I would try to fly it as is first cause to put on a redrive means the prop will be higher or lower and the prop will be larger as well, All of this means you will need to move the engine and mount, maybe raise the cabin and possibly make a taller mast, etc.. etc... A EJ-22 direct drive is still alot of power, and should be plenty for a single place. Just my two cents and wanting to point out that there will be more to this idea than simply bolting on a redrive.

Ron,
Thank you for your input. I'm operating out of a short, rough, cow pasture at 6500' MSL. I could probably get away with no redrive, and I may have to initially, if I can't find an affordable one, but I would prefer the safely margin of the extra available horsepower using the redrive. There are some Falcons operating with EJ22s with belt-type redrive (RFI?), so I don't expect to have to modify the mast. Do you know of anyone who has a used redrive to fit this engine?. I also need a hydraulic pre-rotator. Please keep your commments coming. I appreciate them

Steve,
My Dad (Ernie at RFD) can help with both. He is the US dealer for the new autoflight redrive built by Neil Hintz in New Zealand. He also builds the best hydraulic prerotator in the business. Neither are not cheap, but they both work better than any others on the market. Then again I am a little partial.

My Souza redrive can also fit a 22.

Chris and Mike,
Thanks for the input. I've busted my budget on the Falcon kit and the engine. I need to go used on the redrive to afford one. Finding a used hydraulic pre-rotator will likely be more difficult. Can you tell me how to contact the manufacturer of the Souza prerotator you mentioned? Ernie advises me his won't bolt up to the EJ22.
