This is my winter project. It is a RAF2000 which is all new...and has been in careful storage. There are several of these unfinished projects around and I stumbled upon this one. After my shop is back in order...I will be working on finishing this RAF and going completely throught it.l I have wheel pants for the main wheels....I am looking for a stab for it....will change the rod ends...add some nice accent paint or decals to it. etc...etc.

It has a EA82 engine in it....and everything looks good on it.

It was in excellent shape when I first saw it;..and much better than I hoped for. I intend to get this machine flying ...get it fine tuned...and then put it on the market late winter.

I am already getting attached to it...and I know I will have a hard time parting with it when it does sell.

Sharp looking truck there in those pictures!

I know where there is a RAF 2000 that could be bought pretty cheap like this one Stan, I just wonder.... One will the EA-82 have enough power to really fly two guys our size, and Two besides the engine, what is different between these older RAF's and the newer ones?

Mainly the smaller cabin Ron. The vne for the old cabin is 70 mph as one collapsed inwards onto the people!!!!! For the later cabin vne is 100 mph.

Aussie Paul.:)

how hard would it be to take the cabin off and just have a open machine like Chris' Aircommand? I think the RAF cabin is too cramped to begin with. No way would I want to be squished into that little space with some of my stinky friends! :)

Ron: The EA82 wont have as much reserve as my EJ22...but I am told it has plenty for one big pilot..and is sufficient for two average size people. I am sure it will not have as much reserve for my 270 pound son and my 220 pounds.

I talked to a guy at the Shelbyville fly-in who owned one with a EA82..and he said it had all kinds of power. Ther level of power is what you are used to. I personally think my carburated EJ22 is a powerhouse...but am sure that ones flying fuel injected ones would say I have a dog.

Ron Menzies machine originally had an EA-82. He said it was always at full power... like mine is with the 100lb bag.

I am now driving an 88 GL wagon with EA82, I like it.It is 4 wheel drive w/lever & goes great in the snow.. I can wait for that. But when I turn on the A/C it really gets bogged down. I have an extra one out of a car & another wagon with a turbo one in it that needs a head gasket. I plan to fix that one for driving, I think.

Stan it looks great! I hope you enjoy the build & I can't wait for the results. Is that cabin smaller?

Chris: I know the EA82 isnt a powerhouse...but it should be plenty for just a pilot. If I were intending on flying a lot with two people...my EJ22 that is in my RAF that I fly is enough power for me. I bought my red one to mainly fly solo...and occasionally take up just close family. I dont set any time to climb records with 270 pound Jeff....but...my EJ22 has enough power to satisfy me. I know this EA82 would not and I wont try to sell it saying it has plenty of power for two big people.

This older style cabin is a little smaller...and Ron.. no way is it coming off. I mean..thats what sells the RAF...a heated year round environment. :)
As far as the differences between this one and my newer red one...until I roll up my sleeves and get into it...I cant intelligently reply on that question right now. For now..its just going to sit up at the airport until my stairshop gets rebuilt. I think by November 1st...I will have my new shop all ready for curved stairs....and this RAF project. :D At least I will have all kinds of room working around it this winter....unlike last year when I was working on my red one.
I am looking forward to putting my doors on my red RAF and flying all winter in comfort. Cant wait for some snow shots. :D

My intentions are to get this cute little bird flying and with a stab...and finding a good home for it to someone that wants a nice year round machine. Plus....I will have a ball working on it in my stairshop... :D and....maybe I will make enough for a steak dinner on it as well.... :D

As adept as you are with your hands, you may want to consider the mod to the top of the windscreen. This would eliminate the VNE restriction imposed by RAF.
