Protable refueling station

Again I caution about non gasoline pumps, the end result can and will be ugly.

On the portable filling stations, when you fill them up do you take them to a service station. I was just wondering if there is a problem because they are not listed for a gasoline storage container. ( The fire department coming out in me), I know around here if you use anything but a red listed can to fill up they will stop the pumps.

Mike,
What about a fuel distributor ?? I would think they would have no qualms about you filling it up. Instead of going to the neighbourhood service station.

If the fuel distributor quizzes you about the tank, just tell 'em you're a hobby farmer and you need the portable tank for the machines based around the property. Bore pumps, irrigation pumps, generators, ...etc. Use your imagination. :D

I do carry a 60 gal aluminum tank in my truck to fill farm tractors and track hoes we have here. So far no one has said a thing on the diesel. I just have had so many notices at the FD lately on new safety bulletins on filling portable tanks. I was just wondering if there was a UL listed tank on the market for avation fuel.

Mike,
I really don't know the answer to your question there. My guess is, speak to the local airport refueller. They may point in the right direction regarding your question.

Paul W,
That was a beaut comeback you posted after me. BAWAHAHAHAHA !!! :D

And the answer is , yes. My cans ( 5 & 15 gal. ) are clearly marked for "Gasoline Only" and I only bring my gas cans to the gas station , But my pump and all the fittings including the fuel water seperator are also marked for gasoline. My pump also has a third "grounding wire on it like the kind used in general aviation. All this is a little over the top but I like to be as safe as I can.You can use pump's and fittings not marked for gas but they won't last and can be harmfull. The pump can be found in the Northern tool catalog but I went on line and found it for a lot less, then I got the filter and fittings from a marine supply store. The battery is out of and old airplane and the handtruck from Home Depot was $16.00. Dave.

Notice the battery mounted in the rear of the handtruck and the clips are easy to get to and store with the bungee. you can see the tank in front. the battery last's for quite a while without needing a re-charge, Mike Solano was where I first saw this idea for portable fueling, and he uses the battery on his gyro, this idea can save weight on the handtruck and money too.

I too had a boat tank and I could not get it out of the car,So now I use one or two 5 gal tanks with my pump system and it is fast and easy. And since I have a fuel water seperator on the pump and one on my gyro I no longer need Mr. ( splish/splash) Funnel. I also tried an automotive fuel pump since it was only about $45.00 bucks, but the problem is they pump very , very slow.
