2017 marks the 50th anniversary of PRA Chapter 18, The Greater Midwest Rotorcraft Club.

Located in Lansing, Illinois, chapter 18 is about 10 miles south of the Chicago metroplex, very near the Indiana state line. The club moved to Lansing Municipal Airport (KIGQ) in the late seventies, after losing our private airfield in Frankfort, IL. to urban sprawl.

Our chapter has many activities planned for 2018, starting off with our Polar Bear fly-in, an event we have held every New Years day for the last twenty or so years. There used to be a rush to see who would be the first-to-fly in the new year, but common sense (or old age) now has the event centered around food.

(FAQ) The lowest temperature gyro flight, in our club, that I am aware of, was 14 degrees Fahrenheit.

In an attempt to grow the PRA chapters, we will document our activities throughout the year.

Tom Milton, Chapter 18 Newsletter Editor (I was the youngest when I joined PRA 18 in 1974, and now I am the member with the most years in the club) Where does the time go?

Thanks for that bit of PRA history Tom ... I look forwards to coming to a chapter meeting there later in the year ...as the PRA Chapter co-ordinator ... newly free-as-a bird -retired from farming ... one of my missions this year is to get around to as many chapters as possible and see personally what the "mothership PRA" can do for the chapters and what the needs are!

Congratulations!

Congratulations!

I love to see the fun being shared.

You guys do it right! Congratulations Bro!!!

Chapter 34 New Years lunch and meeting

We also celebrated the new year with a lunch and chapter meeting. I did start my gryo but was unprepared to fly in cold weather.
The chapter talked about a midwest fly in and dry camping weekend in late May at the Putnam County Airport near Greencastle Indiana. We will keep you posted when we have plans.
