Yesterday, I was approached by my local Rotary Club and asked if I would give a talk on my "gyro copters." I know you all are like me, and love to talk about our gyros to anyone who might be remotely interested, however, I don't have anything in the way of a presentation to give this group. Has anyone or would anyone be interested, that has some tech savvy with PowerPoint or some other presenatation software, be interested in putting together a presentation about gyros that members of this forum or the PRA could use to help educate groups about our sport?

I envision something that demonstrates the differences between helicopters and gyros, the different kind of airframes (pusher vs. tractor), some history on the aircraft and pictures of different brands. The presentation could even include answers to questions about what training and certification is required and the proposed Sport Pilot.

I wish that I had the know how to create something of this nature. I was hoping that someone might have the time and the ability in this group. I would be willing to help with a project of this nature if there was anyone else that might be interested. Anyone?

Craig,

What is the due date?

I have some pre-made flyers in adobe pagemaker format that you could had out as well.

I've done several PP presentations, both for my business and for other companies. I might be in a position to help you, depending on when you need it done by. If you could write up a storyboard and dialog, I'm sure we could put a nice presentation together.

Will it be shown with a video projector or on a PC monitor? Thanks,
Brian Jackson

Craig,

Send me your email address and I will send you a Power Point presentation that I gave to our EAA chapter. It is full of photos and information that you could use (history, how they differ from helicopters, examples of several gyro, etc.).

Please use my office email address, as that is where the power point file is located:

Interested!

Interested!

Ken, I would be interested in your presentation info and also what evolves from Craig's efforts.

Locally we have talked about doing these types of presentations and also in seeing if the schools would be interested. Catch 'em young!

Dean's email [email protected]

ThanX!

Wow, what a great response! I don't have a date that I have to adhere to, at least not yet. Anything you could send me would be very much appreciated. Send to [email protected]

Whatever format we could come up with, PC monitor or projection, it would be great if it could be uploaded to a server for anyone to use.

I did several small pps to show my friends and gyro prospects but they are in my pc in Brazil.
I can put something specific in a couple of hours and e-mail it.
Good thing you are doing !
Heron

Efforts Appreciated!

Efforts Appreciated!

Craig, the efforts that you and Tim O'Connor are expending and the volunteering of Brian Jackson to help where possible is exactly what is needed for the PRA to grow. You guys are providing examples of what a grassroot effort is and gives those like me (who are sorta burnt out!) something to point out to others.

I reported in another thread that the desire expressed by many of us 'oldies' at Mentone was to have younger people join and participate. These efforts, and others like them, could very well be what is needed to jump start that process.

ThanX!

Ken, Brian, Craig, all,

Please email me any presentations you wish to share publicly and I will make them available for download from the PRAChapter34.com website.

Craig, looks like you have some options. I can make a p.point if those offered here don't end up being what you were looking for but it looks like you are in great hands with Heron, Ken and Brian.

Good idea Paul, I also have some historical P.Points on the prachapter34.com web site I got from the VTOL society.

Power Point, etc.

Power Point, etc.

The guys on the PRA board roll their eyes every time I mention my other club, but I'll run this past you who have not heard me before.
I belong to the Pyrotechnics Guild International or PGI. A group of like minded individuals who are fanatical about making and displaying fireworks. The PGI has roughly the same membership as the PRA. (In 1997 they numbered 3393 members of which 1328 attended the convention in Amana, Ia.)(these were the last numbers I could lay my hands on)

They do absolutely no advertising and actually try to limit their membership to serious prospects. Backyard bombers are rejected (as you might imagine)

Every year they put on a convention that is held in a different location around the USA, is attended by one third their total membership and has an enormous budget (I seem to recall $500K?) The chairman of the event gets a stipend.

They are a powerful voice in Washington for a much attacked industry.

They offer monies for research & developement, safety and things like the production of Power Point presentations.

If I had the money I'd buy every PRA board member a membership in the PGI and take them to a convention. It would be quite an eye opener. To sum up the PGI's sucess, it can be found in their leadership and an unwaivering army of volunteers.

PowerPoint, anyone?

PowerPoint, anyone?

Does anyone have PowerPoint Software that would be willing to help create my idea of an indepth, presentation that would be wide in scope as far as make and models of gyros are concerned. Ken Rehler's PP was very well done and I'd like to expand upon his ideas, however, I feel his presentation is very gyro specific to his machine.

I have started a "History" portion on gyros and am open to suggestions, comments or additions. I would like to expand upon the History portion with some generalized techinical information of the dynamics of gyro flight, makes and models, training, educational, and associations that all pertain to gyros. Anyone interested in helping create some of these storyboards? The history portion can be seen at https://www.sycamoreusa.com/PowerPoint/index.htm

I'd like to see a final PP presentation that lasted around 15-20 minutes and then a 10 minute question and answer period to make a good 30 minute presentation.

Any and all creativity is welcome!! :D

Ok,

Here is my shot at a PPT

It is way too big to post here so... You can email me and I will send it to you or you can download it here:

( it's near the bottom of the page )

Comments please.
( don't rip me up too bad I am posting this at 3:30 am after all..)

Excellent to the max. Tim O

I liked it enough to grab a copy and customize it a little. That ok? I swapped some Monarch pictures with some Sport Copter and RAF. I also made mention of them as part of the popular designs list and web site list. I swapped out PRA 73 for PRA 34. I wanted to give a little more Pacific Northwest feel to the presentation by including gyros we see around here.

I also did little tweaks, like uncapitolize some words (consistency). Couldn't help it, my Technical Writer thing kicked in.

I also toned down "fact=gyros are safest" to "many people think gyros are safest". In other words...I weasel-worded some things. I did a few other odds and ends too, like tone down some of the page-flipping styles. You'll see.

You can download my zipped version from the Links page of https://www.pra73.net. Did you want to include your name on the title page as author? You deserve some credit for this.

Thank you Gary!

That is just the kind of input I want! Sorry about the grammer, that always comes last for more me ( got to get the ideas out first ). Maybe, we could put a 'contributors' page or mention in.

I will check yours out tonight!

Gary,

I like your changes very much! I am going to put a few of the Monarch photos back in and perhaps add another history page and then leave it alone. The additions to the engine out pages were very much needed.

Tim, can we expect an update?

Indeed. No huge changes, I think.

Gary's changes corrected some of my '3AM fog' entries and some new material that is great. His re-wording of the engine out slides are a good idea as this material is for the general public and not gyronaughts. I am going to leave his chapter link in and add a few more chapter links. As mentioned above I am going to put the Monarch stuff back in (I am a closet Monarch fan) as I think the new technology is noteworthy. I want to add some more history info but I am a history buff and I have to becarefull not to get carried away.

The more I look at it the more I want to add and that is bad news as it is already a long presentation for a general aud. I will have to save my notes for a seperate longer version to be given to those already intrested in gyros and wanting to learn more.

Randy Coplen just finished a PP presentation of his own, and he had a lot on History that he let me borrow. Some of that would be good to beef up the history section. He has great pictures too. I'll work on it when I can.

It was obvious you had a Monarch bias. That is one thing I wanted to eliminate, so that any gyro manufacturer would feel ok about showing this presenation in their booth as "general" informational gyro background material.

Well, I had monarch pictures ready on my desktop at the time so it became my ultralight example. However, on the new technology page I think the monarch deserves to be mentioned by name.

Seems your version had a RAF bias? ;)
