This is the Rotary Wing Forum where rotorcraft enthusiasts can get together and write about rotorcraft, ask questions about rotorcraft, answer questions about rotorcraft, share the love of rotorcraft, share rotorcraft flights, discuss rotorcraft pictures, discuss rotorcraft video and discuss rotorcraft history.

As a rotorcraft enthusiast I find the Rotary Wing Forum to be the most useful forum on social media.

In 2021 we nearly lost the Rotary Wing Forum because posters were not able to be civil about politics so Todd who owns the forum was ready to shut it down.

Todd’s moderators had given up and Todd had no desire to be a moderator.

Kevin asked Todd if he would give it another try with new moderators and Todd acquiesced.

Todd defined part of the moderator's job as keeping ALL POLITICS off the off of the Rotary Wing forum; not just contentious politics.

Please don't pretend you don't know what politics are or that polite politics are ok.

Please find some other forum to discuss politics on.

Thank you!

Good deal, thanks. It is so easy to be drawn into these discussions.

Moderation, great.

Life sometimes imitates art. That is obviously not an original thought. But another not original thought would be "sometimes art imitates life."

One of my favorite movies is "The American President" released in 1995. It stars Michael Douglas and Annette Benning. President Andrew Shepard, played by Michael Douglas, portrays a somewhat left of center politician.

I know I may be pretty unsophisticated in my tastes, but this movie had some of the best quotes I can remember. Among them is the following:

"America isn't easy. America is advanced citizenship. You gotta want it bad, 'cause it's gonna put up a fight. It's gonna say "You want free speech? Let's see you acknowledge a man whose words make your blood boil, who's standing center stage and advocating at the top of his lungs that which you would spend a lifetime opposing at the top of yours."

I spent a full third of my life defending the concept expressed in this quote. I am saddened right now.

I recommend this movie. For those interested more quotes can be found here: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0112346/quotes/qt0341878

It was absolutely political from the get-go!
Then it could have been deleted "from the get-go." But it wasn't.
It could have been deleted after the lengthy post by a retired physician who accused "conspiracy theories." But it wasn't.
It was only deleted after I challenged many of the good doctor's assertions. I disagree with the moderator's act, which I feel was unnecessary, untimely, personal (and, ironically, political) regarding a very civil thread on a vital topic.

Having said my peace, I'm moving on. I won't again mention the "C-word" on this forum.

Oh, be careful, Jim. That's a movie about politics. 😬
Therein lies the crux. The movie is not about politics as my post is not about politics. The movie is about love, romance, duty, love of country, the rule of law, and the classic good against evil. My post is about tolerance, duty, ideals, and the importance of debate and civil discourse.

I'm a guest in Todd's lounge. In the lounge many things are discussed as long as they do not break the rules of the owner. Todd, I am told, absolutely prohibits political discussions. I actually wholeheartedly support that rule. It's the same rule I have in my home. My family spans the political spectrum from very liberal to very conservative. We are united by our love and genuine liking for each other.

Kevin and Vance wisely included an Off Topic section to the forum. Without that section we wouldn't have Wayne's enjoyable thread on "Favorite Music."

I believe we, each of us, must try to understand that everything upon which we disagree is not politics.

There is no way to discuss the FAA's MEDICAL stance on physicals when it is based upon political considerations.
Thats like saying talk all you want about rotorcraft flying, but you are not allowed to mention the spinney thing above you.
I belong to a bunch of firearms forums. It is impossible to discuss anything the ATF does without politics even if the outcome is decidedly impactful such as turning tens of millions of honest good folk into felons on May 13th on a whim.
The FAA is no different just far less contentious.
I got deleted. Okay, so what? I am not crying about it, people got angry at me because I have a different view of the world? Big shock.
Is the moderation heavy handed? Yup, do I wan't the job? Nope.
Is it possible to have a forum spanning intrests around the globe and NEVER bring up politics?
Good luck with that!
Suppose some asks about the Giant balloon floating over the US, thats flying...no answers about it don't lead back to politics.
Can political differences be discussed civilly? Thats really the crux of it all.
I have been asked to tone it down. I have tried, when I am personally attacked for a point of view, I am asked to scale back. Nope nothing political in nature about that. When I rebuff a personal attack, I am deleted, nope nothing political about that either.
Moderators gonna moderate, and I am gonna say my piece, If I get deleted, so be it. If I get suspended, so be it.

Yours wasn't the only, much less the last, post in the thread. Don't assume it's all about you.
