Are there any plans that show the construction of the metal tail? Anyone have pictures a tail that was disassembled to give me any clues? I'm probably going to have to build one for a project I'm acquiring.

Thanks,
Rusty

The pdf file I have is too large to down load on this forum. Post or PM me your E-mail and I will send it.

I've looked through most of the Gyro Technic site, and it's all just beautiful. It would definitely be the "If money were no option" option.

I really don't think there's ever been a set of plans released for the Dominator metal tail. I've read that the early plans had no tail, or maybe only had a wood tail. If someone ever had to re-skin one, it would be nice to see some internal pictures. It also wouldn't be too hard to build from scratch, since I doubt the dimensions are all that critical.

Thanks,
Rusty

No never any plans for the metal tail only the wood one. The metal tail construction and tooling were designed by Dick Degraw. Dad still has the tooling.

Thanks for the confirmation Mike. I bought a project that has plans, and the wood tail plans, as well as enough parts to make it a fairly easy build. The tail was destroyed a roll over, but enough of the tail parts are here so I can pretty much see how it was constructed. I'm still not certain I'll rebuild this, but couldn't resist picking it up for the price. I'm not getting any younger, and I'm not sure I want something I need a ladder to climb into :)

No need for a ladder. I have probably abnormally short legs that I got from dad and with a step I have no problem getting in it. My legs on jeans are only 29”. Dad is 30”. My machine is taller than standard. I have a 68” prop so the seat is pretty high off the ground. We put what dad says is an old msn step on it. I have no problem getting it it. You put your right foot on the step and mount it like a horse. The stability in the air and the rough field capabilities make it well worth it.

Mike does your dad still do the aluminium tale tale kits ? keen to get one if he does.
No he doesn’t. He actually never did kits. It was a fully built tail with HS taken off for shipping. The customer had to assemble that part after they got it. He is unfortunately fully retired and doesn’t want anything to do with gyros anymore. There are plans out there for the wood tail he used for years. They are great but heavy and very labor intensive.

Denis @ Gyro Technic is willing to sell various parts of his gyro kit, such as his tall-tail that has some differences from the Dominator one. A gyro pilot from Japan is happy w/ his Gyro Technic tall-tail he purchased from Denis for his non-Gyro Technic gyro.
