That was hilarious Shirly. You can’t keep a good Cornishman down. Had a GG grandfather who was one.
 
I guess the difference is that by the 60/70/80/90/2000s the lessons of pioneer aviators of the 1910/20/30s was documented and known. Kicking the tyres for a daily inspection (for example) killed in the same way eventually in 1910 as it did in the 90s or even today. There are few new ways to kill yourself in an aircraft.
 
LOVED the part of his story how he refueled IN FLIGHT using part of his seat! Had me in stitches...
And, how that technique kept his air frame clean. 😂
 
I suppose we are decidedly eccentric as a race, but there you go. Takes all sorts.
