New Sportcopter in Panama...!

I had the great honor and privilege of being asked to assemble this machine for my friend and fellow forum member Ramon Fonseca.

This was shipped in one huge crate in a "quick" assembly condition...and packed quite well for the long trip down here from Oregon.
I tip my hat to all the fine folks at Sportcopter for an amazing machine and especially the way it was crated up.

Unpacking was straight forward, and after installing the wheels and gear, it rolled right out of the box nearly ready to fly.

Never having had my hands on one like this before, I took the assembly process slow and easy, double checking all work as I proceeded.

Ramon is understandably proud and very happy to own this fine machine...who wouldn't be...?
It is technically beautiful to look at and constructed to very high standards in every way.

(Sorry to all...I completed this assembly several months ago, but am now just getting around to posting details now).
"Life" is what happens to you when Ya' get busy..!

Here's a short video of the first run after assembly:

PS....Had to squish and compress photos to fit upload size and the video is a bit dark in the beginning.
For viewing problems, allow the video to cache fully to aid in smooth play back (the site sometimes is quite slow).
And yes, please spare me any wise cracks...the gas cap was not on the tank (my bad).

Ramon,

Congratulations on getting a very fine machine. I am sure you will love it. Especially with that Rotax 912 on it. That should provide you many hours of reliable and safe flying.

I'm not a pilot but have been lucky enough to fly in Mi-24 Hind, Mi-2, Mi-17, Lynx HAS3, Gliders, GA
HI M-M

Great story and photos.

Do you know if there are any other flying gyros in Panama ?

A look at an older "HP-" Panama register shows only an old Mcculloch and an Air Command.

Do you know the new "HP-...." registration for this new SC please ?

Thank you

Steve

Hi to All...!

Thanks for the comments, always appreciated.

@Jon (Master Roda).
The way it was packed...all was in perfect condition.
I usually worry about how the folks at Customs handle things...I can tell you stories I can assure you.

@Gabor (Choppergabor)
Hiding...Hahaha. That's a good one...been busy like crazy..!
Will do...expect that phone to ring any moment now..!

@ Steve UK
We have 2 Magni's here, an Aircommand Tandem...and several more.
Not sure about the registration numbers...some are awaiting their numbers.

@Timchick

Sure do, in fact two..!
I bought Ramon's Dominator (which the Sportcopter replaces)...and planning on rebuilding it to flight worthy condition after a minor mishap occurred and it took a tumble. It was being taxied when the axle snapped off...thankfully the pilot wasn't hurt...and I got a great deal on it at that point.

My other is the custom drop keel Bensen w/ Soob that I started on a while back now (after spending 2 years acquiring all the parts) but needed to put that project on hold while I was selling my Home back in MN. and relocating here.
My main focus in life right now is getting back on my feet financially...so the projects need to wait for now. But no doubt, I've got enough to keep me happy and busy for several years to come...and I'll make the time for them when it's right (I can't wait <smiles>).

Mike , did you move there too ?

You were keeping this a secret ! Now we know who's got(or had) all the bucks !

Factory assembled 912 Vortex shipped to Panama ! Whoo Hooo ! Way to go !!

Is that an 80 or 100HP 912 ?

How about some really good closeup detail shots of things ? Like that prerotator lower drive setup ?

Ramon, I hope you can do some flying video for us all ! Enjoy that sweet machine !

Congratulations !!!!

PS.... how much is fuel down there & does it have ethanol ?

Mike- Glad to see your move to Panama is so exciting for you. We who have been following your posts are delighted to hear this latest report from you. Keep up the good work and I wish you the best on your jewelry business. However in my opinion, you are working with a better kind of gold! Cheers! Stan

It is exciting here...never a dull moment adjusting to life here.

Hi Chris..!
No secret...look back on my posts.
The color of the Valve covers is the dead give away on the make/HP. of the Engine.
My Camera broke...I'll borrow one soon and shoot a bunch of detailed shots for all to see.

HI Mike I've really missed your post buddy!

Hope you do call me buddy, only for the next few days I'll be packing up two trucks to help my daughter move to Indiana. Perhaps by myself as my daughter, husband, 1/2 of my grandchildren are sick. I think the stress of moving as reduced their immune system allowing them to catch anything.

I'm already feeling abandonment issues!

Re: Rotax Engine Colors......Black=80 Hp

Re: Reasons to be in Panama

Let's see...
....you can fly all year long here...NO SNOW (or Hurricanes for that matter).

Stunningly beautiful beaches and pristine coral reefs.
(...and since I'm a single guy)...AMAZING, EXOTIC BEAUTIFUL WOMEN.

Last year the economy grew at 10%...!

Tasty food-Cheap
...a whole bag of 8-10 tomatoes is $1-
...a complete home cooked meal at a "Fonda" runs $3-.

I could go on and on...but in a nut shell...a better life in oh so many ways.
It takes a certain kind of person to live out the adventure here (because it's really not for everyone)...but for some a little slice of "heaven" on earth.
I find myself becoming more "Panamanian" everyday (as my language skills improve).

The following photos are a sample of what I call the good life.
(I however live in the heart of the Capital City= 1.4 million people).

Photos, Left to right: at Toboga Beach, Red Frog Beach, and Drago beach
(the last two are in an area known as Bocas Del Toro....do a Google image search to see what that place is all about..!).
Lower Left: A composite view of the City from my Apartment.

Hi, Everyone! I have not been often in the forum, but will come now more as I have my new Vortex. I am twice blessed: with a Vortex and with Mike down here! He has been invaluable in putting my machine together. Thank you Mike!

Tks John. I will try to write more often. Very busy in other issues but flying is my relaxation and mode of transportation too!
