Hey Fellas,

I'm humbly asking for your help.

Birdy has opened my eyes somewhat, in his criticism about using my swashplate drive my MRGB oil pump. I appreciate that. I realize I talk a lot and am opinionated and that may keep someone from posting something that may help me.

When you stink...you cannot smell yourself. This thread is about you guys telling me to take a bath. I will listen only, and not contribute at all. Please keep the comments on topic. The topic is narrowly defined as mechanical solutions to problems on the Mini-500 I'm building. Any technical opinions or ideas are fair game for comment. Try not to say things like "Sell it now before you die." That's not of any value on this thread.

Please keep things as factual as possible about the Mini and its history and problems. Feel free to criticize my method of curing a problem. The goal here will be to get my attention if I have gotten on the wrong trail, so I will realize it and correct it before I become a statistic.

Also, I realize the 582 is the weakness in my project but there's no other option for me. Keep any engine advice focused on running a bluehead 99 Model 582 in a Mini-500, at 6495 RPM, constant.

Thanks for you guys' help.

Bryan

Bryan- You will do fine. Its much better to be obsessive with details, than just go build in bliss

You are very passionate for whatever you get into and so am I. I considered myself obsessive sometimes, and have been told that to my face...kind of not in a flattering way. But I feel you are going to be as prepared to fly the Mini-500 as anyone as you are do detail orientated
....much more than I could ever be.

I wish you good luck and will be happy for you when you start flying it.

There is really little to say. You pretty much have it dialed in the best you could ask for and since the engine swap is not something you are willing to do my suggestion would be to fly well clear of property or persons that you could run into. You could tweak the design forever, but you are still running on an engine that should not be in the machine IMO. When you fly, just assume the engine will seize up and plan accordingly.

Yep, spot on unfortunately. The 582 can & will seize !! A mate of mine can testify to that despite.

Bryan said he will listen and not post. He already knows about the Rotax. Any mention of the engine, I think, should be just things to help keep it running.

Yes, I realize that; however, he said he wanted to live and wanted a suggestion. My suggestion is to fly well out of the HV curve and away from people or hard objects. My next suggestion is to fly it more like an airplane using adequate power to match the RPMs keeping the engine nicely lubricated. Instead of dropping collective for a normal or steep approach I would fly a fast approach and do a quick stop. Running the 582 at max RPM and low power is asking for trouble.

His work is exceptional and I don't think I could help in that regard.

Excellent suggestions...probably just what he's looking for.

Don't need a lube pump- Put a blast tube from the radiator fan shroud to cool it.

heat is more a problem than lubrication.

Brian, Baronpilot pretty much covered it.
Get a proper engine or all your time will be for nuthn.
Wots the use ofa heli if you gota fly it like a patachute?
Like lovenly restoren a 77Vett, then putn a kubota motor init.

But, if you instist, and your comen down steep, auto it and close the tap.
