Honestly that engine is an antique and very rarely used anymore. They were used before the introduction of Rotax engines and is very unreliable. They were made for target drones in the 40-60,s. Therefore they are built with the bare minimum to run. We who were around when these engines were the primary used engine call having a power failure a “ Mac attack” for a reason. When one would by a new engine from Red Smith in Texas he would give only one guarantee it will quit.

It's the Edsel of engines; hated by many, loved by some, an interesting collector's item, but I would only have one in my aircraft as cargo.

I am still flying the 2 Mac's, power to weight and the lite feel of the Bensen is a lot of fun. After 7 Mac attacks I only fly over something to land on. El Mirage lake bed is perfect.

There's a Bensen for sale here complete for $3000.

I would like to have your Mac, I'll pay shipping+

With a solid-state ignition from Rick Whittridge, a McCulloch is a great engine for homebuilt airplane or gyro. Rick's ignition and his advice on what fuel/oil to use could make for good power at a low price for some flier. A few years ago, an EAA member put one on his little plane.

Problem is I believe Rick is no longer making them.

Rick made one for me, it lost spark, so I put a spare mag on, I am working on getting it sparking

Sam, the issue these days would be the shipping, up to a couple of years ago, an engine could be simply strapped to a pallet and shipped as a dry engine via motor freight.
Since 2020, there is now a 1.27 per gallon "Green Energy Fee", which drives up the cost of shipping ( and everything else as well ).
Pricing engine parts from Massachusetts to Texas ( one pallet estimated @ 90 LBS ), the shipping estimate came in at 499.00.
If the engine was broken down and shipped UPS in two 50 LB boxes, the estimate came in around 29.00 per box, with a three day shipping ( Kind of defeats the purpose of a quality overhaul from R&D Engineering ).
I think that maybe a local sale would work out best for you, since shipping fees seem to change with the rising cost of diesel fuel, and I'm not going to give you a low offer on your dad's engine, just because the "Green Administration" wants to be unfriendly to people that use over the road shipping.
( the few McCullochs that I have purchased were all between 300.00 - 500.00, but they all needed a lot of work as well )
