Those large tires will go down fast on tarmac. They are meant to be used for grass or elsewhere. Tarmac will eat them up quick. Just for grass strips something like Turf Glide tires are better because they will also work reasonably long on tarmac although not 500 hours like normal tires do.
Agreed. My gyro came with turf tires, because Magni tests all its aircraft from their turf runway in Casaleggio. When we got it back to the US, we put standard tires on to finish my training at an airport with a standard concrete runway. My instructor said the turf tires would wear out very quickly on the concrete.
Well, I've been flying mainly off a grass runway for the last five years, and those standard tires have been working just fine, it seems to me. Admittedly my home turf is pretty smooth (if not exactly level).
Another benefit of standard tires is they are going to be much less draggy
in flight, especially with the wheel spats attached.
