GyroBee Variant - Under Construction
Greetings.

I have decided to simplify my current build in the hope of flying during my lifetime. I am looking for a seat tank (~5-7 gal.). I know Tom Milton supplied these via Calumet Air but don't know if he is still involved with them. I know nothing about seat tanks except the fuel goes on the inside and they're seat-shaped. Was hoping to find one new that would mount reasonably easily to a Gyrobee. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. Air Command also sells them but their site is currently reporting as out of stock. Thank you kindly.

Brian

Thanks, John.

They're out of stock according to their site but hopefully I'll get a return email when they'll have more in. Jake doesn't post here anymore that I know of. Wish he did, I miss him.

I bought 10 and 14 gal seats from https://www.summitppc.com There is no information on the sale of seats on the site. Purchase through personal correspondence.

Thank you, MarCons.

Interesting design. However the protrusion on the bottom of the tank would not work with the Gyrobee frame. But I appreciate the info and your write-up on the site you posted. Thank you.

Adam H runs Calumet now Brian. I contacted him by PM’ing him on this site or their email

Brian,
Adam Helwich and myself are the current owners of Calumet Manufacturing. We bought the company from Tom Milton and still offer the seat tanks and Wunderlich prerotator. Feel free to give Adam a call, our number is (708) 719-4171. Adam and I built a gyro bee a few years back and used one of our seat tanks on it.

Thank you for the info, Nick.

I will do that. If there's one in stock I will buy it today. Much obliged!

Thank you all for the guidance. I received a return call from Adam H of Calumet Mfg. (also goes by Adam H on this forum). They have them in stock and there's one on its way to me today. Kit includes valves, cap, mounting hardware, etc. Very nice gentleman.

I veered from the original intent of doing custom tanks. With all the extra crafting on the ship so far I couldn't see a huge return on additional time investment of custom tanks, not to mention being a test pilot of an unproven system. I'm not as smart as I used to think I am, so this may be a classic case of K.I.S.S. winning the day.

Are you using a 90 degree vertical mast as in the gyrobee plans Brian? If so, moving your fuel tank from behind, to in front of the mast will necessitate moving your main gear axle to pretty much directly under the mast for proper nose wheel weight.

That is correct, John. Axle position is currently directly under the vertical mast, which is in accordance with Ralph's GyroBee plans. I toyed with raking the mains in the conceptual stage but decided against it. Moving the tanks will move the CG forward which I will compensate for in the rotor cheek plates after the hang test. As I understand it, the goal is to get ~12% of the AUW on the nosewheel.

They are listed on the Air Command website, think 5 and 10 gal
