Ken Brock Freedom Fly-In (KBFFI) 27-29 September 2024, El Mirage Dry Lake, California

Any other musicians coming?

Nice machine. I can only see one thing I would change before the first time I fly it. The windshield is not doing much good being that low. It’s designed to have one that is level with your eyes or slightly above. That one is going to funnel the wind right up and into the chin of your helmet and probably try to blow it off anything above say 60 MPH. Just a suggestion sir.

I'll be trailering my new to me Dominator. Hoping to get some experienced eyes to look her over.

Mike,

This is the first Dominator I have seen whereas the horizontal stabilizer posses an inverted asymmetrical airfoil and not a symmetrical one.

Was his Dominater built by a gentleman originally from South Africa and lived in Camarillo, CA?

That's an odd looking foil, like an inverted EH series (zero pitching moment for flying wings).
I am wondering if that is a photo distortion, or the tip was bent....
Now I am thinking about towing my Domi just to compare it to this one!!!!

I think it's a distortion, looking at it from an angle. The Dominator kit comes with a horizontal stabilizer that's symmetrical.

Wayne,

The Dominator was built by John Benham of Redmond OR, but apparently he bought the kit from the original purchaser. I don’t currently have access to the materials, but I seem to remember seeing a Camarillo address on at least on piece of paperwork that came with the machine.

That Dominator appears to be plans built. Probably with some pieces bought from Dad. The nose gear fork and Tall Tail are for sure plans built. The Tail is wood and Dad did invert the airfoil on one side to counteract the induced torque at speed. Sometimes he would even twist it as well, which was harder to do when he went to wood wings on the H.S. It was originally furring strip spar with foam covered with fiberglass. This was easier to twist and form. Come to think of it that Tail was probably made at Dad’s shop because the plans for the tail only had the fiberglass and foam H.S.

I'll be there about mid-day Friday. I'll be bringing a McColloch engine (as seen in for-sale subforum) that I hope will go home with someone else who can make good use of it.
