Hi, Friends:

This new Nano and trailer are for sale in NH. I'd like to contact the seller to learn more about it, but not sure what questions I should pose to him.

What should I be looking for in a new gyro like this?

Cheers,

Steve

Ask the following:

1. Why is he selling it?
2. During the two hours was there a rotor or prop strike? If so, what has been repaired and or replaced?

Those would be my primary questions. You might also talk to Barry K, Carolina Barnstormers about his experience with the Nano.

Does he still have the shipping crates? Might be more practical to repack it than ferry-fly it.

Hi Steve,
Just out of curiosity I had inquired with him about it through his Facebook ad:

Essentially he said he’s just too big for it. Part of his response:

The biggest problem I see with this gyro. Is the hirth engine. There are not a lot of places to get service support for the engine in the United States. That's the biggest problem I had when I had a hirth engine on my gyro

Thank you, Chuck.

If I remember correctly, one of the guys at the Carolina Barnstormers had flown one of these and said it was not a good one for a beginner.

I have flown a Nano, with same engine as the one in that ad. Was NOT a easy to fly gyro. The throttle on the cyclic was probably one of the most challenging aspects of operating the gyro. That and the rudder did not seem super effective. Also the gyro being so light had a very sensitive feel, taking lots of attention to keep everything straight and smooth.

They are good looking gyros and seem to be very well built. But I would not suggest one for a beginner for sure. And I would want to modify the controls to have the throttle on a stand alone quadrant on the side of the gyro, not on the control stick.

The former Hirth dealer in Tiffin, Ohio is still offering parts and repairs.

That is excellent input, Ron. Very much appreciated.
I've decided to not pursue this purchase.
Back to the drawing board!
Steve, Here is an option for you: Aviomania Genesis CE Plus we offer an enclosed model: Aviomania Genesis Sport both models can accomodate up to 115 hp engines with either the 914 or 912 Edge Performance Big Bore Kit.
