I just read in a news report that an Iranian general was killed in a gyrocopter accident along with his pilot. The general was a member of the Revolutionary Guard.

A funny-looking "gyro"

That looks like a small airplane to me. They were probably trying to spy into Pakistani side of Balochistan and most likely Pakistani military shot it down is my guess. Iran attacked Pakistani Balochistan in Jan 24 and it was retaliated against. This time Pakistanis didn't probably wait and shot it down first.
I do not see any rotors just looks like a burnt-up wing and tail and a tri-gear airplane. Kind of amazing of Iran doing all this while having literally a war with Israel on their hands.

Excellent. A Queen song comes to mind...

The Iranians did lose an ELA "military" gyro eight years ago.

I remember that –at least ten years ago– ELA got a contract from the Iranian government for the supply of a certain number of gyros, to be used for border surveillance...

Many ago some Iranian American guy tried to buy some trikes from me for what turned out to be Iranian government. Eventually he spilled where they would end up in conversation and I did not sell. He thought me originally being from Pakistan would create a soft spot. Iran had modified the trikes to fly undetected over the border into Iraq for surveillance. US Airforce had asked me to arrange 6 Airforce colonels from Andrews AF base to learn to fly trikes because they had found a trike crashed over the border with no one found around. They had not detected the trike on radar. I hooked them up with a dealer and instructor who trained them so Airforce knew what trikes are and how they fly.

I wasn’t so lucky with Mexican cartels. My Mexican dealer unknowingly sold 3 of our trikes to Mexican cartels who used them to smuggle drugs over the border flying very low. They found two of the trikes crashed near Arizona border with data plates showing our company name clearly. That was fun.

I am surprised ELA would sell gyroplanes directly to Iranian govt. I guess they are not concerned about US sanctions and have no dealings for export with any US State Dept. stuff in Spain.

We're under orders to stay away from U.S. politics here on the Forum. Dunno if the same policy applies to foreign politics...?

I agree with Abid that Iran's seeming embrace of multi-front imperialism looks insane from this vantage point.

Sometimes governments adopt that tactic when they're worried abut the extent of their support at home.

This one (photo taken from a Spanish gyro site) looks very much like an ELA...

But it seems that they now fly Iran-made gyros. Probably copies of ELAs

My Persian/Farsi is extremely rusty now. I will have to watch and listen a few times.
It seems like our European friends whether be AutoGyro Gmbh in Germany selling MTO design to Chinese or ELA in Spain selling their open cockpit tandem designs to Iran (under direct US sanctions) have no qualms dealing with these governments while US companies cannot do that easily. What a racket.

After viewing the photo of the crashed and burnt airframe, my guess is the aircraft is an off the shelf European composite fixed wing ultralight. Definitely not a gyroplane.

One has to remember that the media anywhere has no obligation to be accurate and/or factual. The reason why with the majority of aviation accidents, the aircraft involved are mislabeled.

High wing, strut braced, stabilator for pitch control, tube fuselage. Doesn't ring a bell, but it's probably an eastern European product
