Well, I'm on the road again. Arrived yesterday evening in Cairo, but had today off to relax before meetings begin tomorrow with Ministry of Defence. I hardly ever get the chance to do any sight-seeing during these business trips.

Looks like I have to stop off in Azerbaijan on the way home next week, never been there yet. If anyone is flying gyro's in these places let me know.

A recent huge discovery 20 mi south of Cairo

Although full details are yet to be announced, authorities said in a statement that "a huge number" of wooden sarcophagi had been unearthed. The country's Tourism and Antiquities Minister Khaled El-Enany said that the find amounted to "dozens" of coffins, adding that they have been "sealed since ancient times."

The collection of sarcophagi, stored in three newly discovered burial shafts, is believed to date back more than 2,500 years. Colored and gilded statues were also found in the tombs, a government press release said.

Probably not open to the public yet , but interesting nonetheless.
They are building a multi-billion dollar museum to house everything.

Thanks for sharing Dennis.
Thanks to Martin also. I love to learn.

We spent a week in and around Cairo in the mid 90's. Lots of things to see, National Museum, but thought Sakkara and Valley of the King's were super. I was amazed by the contrast going from Cairo to the Pyramids... Did an evening light show at the Great Pyramid and Sphinx that was awesome!
