Hurricane / Tropical Storm Hilliary

Yesterday, I attended the Wings Over Camarillo Airshow at KCMA. At 4 PM, it was announced that today's airshow (Sunday) was cancelled.

Both the Dodgers and Angels played "Double-headers" yesterday so they wouldn't be "rained out" today because of the storm.

Interestingly, Disneyland is remaining open today regardless of the storm. I just viewed a live shot from there on the local TV news KTLA 5. Crazy! LOL

It is refreshing to see finally some sanity in the news that show there are indeed natural causes for climate change instead of the main stream media pounding down our throats each and everyday about eliminating fossil fuels ...as the main stream media put almost all the blame on fossil fuels and eliminating them.

I am all for reducing our foreign dependence on oil by offsetting with again increasing our own oil production...instead of shutting down our own oil rigs and oil leases...then going over and bowing down to... and begging Saudi Arabia not to cut their oil production. What is wrong with BOTH sides of the aisle here? I know, but won't say as I will be banned.

That makes a whole lot of sense...cut down our own oil production and super tanker it across the globe.

I am for increasing oil production, nuclear, coal, wind and solar as much as we can to stay independent. In fact...I am ready to sign a major solar panel contract on our family farm....turning down tens of millions to do the whole farm...but instead diversifying and only doing a smaller part.

I have always had a theory that in fact some in our government might be pretty smart. Oil is supposedly a finite resource. So by not tapping in to our oil we have been told is the largest in world we are using theirs up and making them rich.

When theirs finally dries up that’s when we go ahead and open those areas that have never been tapped up and we stand alone as the only country with our own oil. The luck we have their will be a better technology before then and we will be stuck with an outdated resource in abundance that we can’t sell.

I feel the earth, move, under my feet. I feel the sky come falling, a falling down down! LOL A 5.1 earthquake hit's Ojai, CA. I thought the wind shook my house. Nope, it was a quake.

One thing I have noted here in Santa Clarita is the lack of any lightning and thunder with such a warm tropical air mass. When I was a child, we experienced many, many, more (I'm going to date myself) electrical storms here in SoCal than in the past 40 years.

I lived inland in Southern Calif in the early 60s. I remember we got rain occasionally but never any lightning or thunder!

Haven't had one drop of rain in Tucson yet, did the Salton Sea re-flood yet?

When I was about five years old in the early 1960's, I remember during a family gathering there was a good electrical storm (what my parents and grandparents who were from the Mid-West would say). My uncle had brought over his 16mm movie projector and he was showing various old movie shorts such as Keystone Cops and Buster Keaton. A storm came up and the electricity went out. So he tells me, "Wayne, go flush the toilet to bring the electricity back on." As a very willing five year old impressionable participant, I flushed the toilet. Sure enough, the electricity came back on! He's laughing with his trademark, boisterous "Harh, harh, harh harh" laugh and my Mom yelling at him, Rene' quit encouraging him will you!"

Miracle in the Desert: The Rise and Fall of the Salton Sea

The amount of wind we've been experiencing here in Santa Clarita is not that major. No gusts over 30 kts. This reminds me of a typical monsoon type storm I've experienced in Hawaii, Guam, Philippines or Thailand. Because my wife is an island girl, she did go outside earlier today with a big smile on her face, cooing, and laughing in the rain as she performed her obligatory rain dance.

For the past 116 years the Salton Sea is still full of water. It's just polluted with dangerous levels insecticides, pesticides, and fertilizers.

Wayne
Yes, it has had water since the first few floodings in the early 1900's, but it is my understanding that it had a significantly higher water level
(Fresh water that allowedan aquaculture to form) and the original die off was from salt and mineralization from the old sea floor and run off from the mountains. The chemicals came later.....
