No horizontal stab needed.
I know its been discussed, and I looked but didn't find what I needed to know, so here it goes;

The other day I wanted to upload this URL file here on the forum off my VillagePhoto's hosting site so that the picture showed and not the link, like now:

http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2003-6/228816/Mini500Blade1.jpg

But when I use the attachment manager, it comes back with "Invalid URL".

I also wanted to place a URL here off uTube so again, it showed on the forum and not have to take you to uTube, like now:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DYuHR1Eet3w

It also comes back with "Invalid URL".

I also tried to embed this video on the forum:

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/DYuHR1Eet3w&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/DYuHR1Eet3w&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

But again, it don't work.

What am I doing wrong, please?

Dennis,

I can't help with the You-Tube inbed. I am not sure if the forum supports it.

But I can help with the photo.

1. copy the URL for the photo

2. Click on this button in the post window :
insertimage.gif

3. A pop-up box will show up. Past the URL into the pop-up box

(if no pop up box turn off your pop up blocker for this site)

4. Post the reply. It should now show up.

.

I am going to try the video link.... Might not work..

Nope, I have to give up on the video. HTML code is OFF according to the little window in the bottom of my screen.

Most likely to prevent spam.

Sorry, best I can do is the embedded photo.

Testing this out:

Guess it worked!! Thank you.

So, then what is the URL upload for inside the "Manage Attachments" box for?

You are welcome.

It is for uploading files. I don't know why it did not work. I have not used that method.

How does one post the You-Tube video's to be part of the post, and plays in the post, not a link to the You-Tube site, like the example here:

http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showpost.php?p=11569943&postcount=108

Regards,

Francois

If there is a way I don't know how to do it with the current forum settings.

If you look in the lower left hand part of the forum page there is a 'forum rules' box. In mine it says HTML off. I would need html to use the embed statement to put the video in line.

We can do it with photos becuase the url command seems to work.

Dennis,
Note there is a file size limitation. You need a program to resize or resample to get the file size below 150kb.

I've seen videos embedded on other forum sites also but this forum doesn't give that option.

Did you upload it as an JPEG off your computer? If so, I do that ok.

Nice picture, by the way.

No, I went to the website, right-clicked the picture and clicked 'properties', grabbed the address, and pasted it into the URL window on the Attachment Manager.

Dennis,
In the quick reply text box where you type to submit your text there's a button along the top that represents a photo. It's the next to the last button. If you click that it tells you to "Please enter the URL of your image". Enter the address for you photo and click OK. It should insert your photo.

OK, that could be it, but I thought that was just for uploading pictures. I thought the whole point of uploading a URL was because you could do so with a much larger off-site file?

Dennis, you are correct.

Tim, he had done that successfully, He was talking about the confusing URL upload option in the attachments screen.

Can someone suggest a good site to store URL photos for me? I have only found sites that store reduced size/quality photos, so it doesn't do me any good for imbedding full size pix here. Or else they want to charge monthly fees for storage.
