Well guys and gals, it looks like I may be almost there on my project. I can't make any promises, yet. I already figured out Sparrow Hawk and modified-beyond-recognition RAF 2000s. Which other gyros are dynamically stable? Which manufacturers offer factory or factory supported training in their machines? Which manufacturers would be willing to inspect newly built machnes and provide a Certificate of Compliance? Who has a whole airport they want to insure? Now's your chance to tell me Who, What, When, Where, How and Why. Just don't tell me where to go, 'cause I drew the map!

I thought we already talked about all that Cody...

No way to know for sure, but Greg G. is saying the Magni is dynamically stable. I would say that ANY small (i.e. not a Hawk 4) gyroplane with a stab larger than 10 sq.ft. located more than 6 ft behind the CG is dynamically stable. Others, which do not meet this criteria might be stable too, but you have to test them.

AAI, Magni (require), A/C, Sport Copter.

I would guess AAI, Magni, A/C, and Sport Copter... But I don't know for sure.

Who has a whole airport they want to insure?
I wish I did...

Thanks Udi, that's start. I need model designations. I know Magni has a lot of different models and some of the older ones may not meet the current theories. Since nobody talks about the tractors, I assume there are no issues there and they are good machines. Any thoughts on the TwinStar? I know there are a couple of investors snooping around. Too bad Don is no longer around to ride the wave.

Greg is flying the Magni M-16 and I know he tested it. I don't know if he tested any other Magnis, but the M-14 also has a huge tail and I assume it is as stable as the M-16.

I don't know much about the tractors, and there are no tractor gyro kits available. I was under the impression that you wanted info only on kits.

Twinstar "looks" like a solid gyro, but the stabs (if you can call them that) may be too close to the CG to be dynamically effective.

My opinion.

I'm looking at Experimentals that aren't Pt 103. If it's not an ultralight it's fair game.

I haven't been following this discussion- Have you ruled out a single place helicopter? I'm kind of partial to these. :D

Al, first I have to get gizmos done. If I get that approved, then I can start in on copters. The Helicycle is OK, my preference is the Safari or Exec 162F. I kind of lean toward the Rotorway, it's homie kind of thang.

Got it, Cobra Doc. Those other machines are nice ,too.

I guess I just like having two seats. :)

dont rule out the twinstar even the factory is close. Woody D'Sar is trying to bring it back to live in UK. AIrport insurance no, but I will like to change my current hangar insurance broker. STable machine is a catch 22. depend who is in the controls.

You can alwasy ask for training time by cert CFI before in surance.

Anything I'm at the controls of will be unstable! Anybody have any thoughts on the MadMax?

I still feel that many designes out there that dont have a factory backing them up will be left out on insurance and any other advancement in our rules and regulation.

I can trim my gyro to hands off flight climb and turn by moving my weight around. Does this make it stable?

My gyro has extra HP that in the hands of a non trained pilot will be a killer.
Now in the past insurance cost was what stop many of getting on the wagon when PRA got the deal many years ago. But 2 seaters pilots with several "K" dollars invested realized we need it. Iam not saying I am going to spend 5,000 a year to cover my gyro.
What I beleived is that is many of us get insured we can get a fair cost .

Cody, the Mad Max is one of the best models you couild insure. It is extremely stable and the whole gyro is over built. It is the flying tank of gyroplanes. The Mad Max flys like a very heavy dominator.

Cody, I agree with Ron. The MadMax is the most stable gyro I have ever flown. I've flown single seat Bensens, also RAF 2000's and tandum Air Command and Doninators and my MadMax feels more stable than any of them. Biased?? Damned right I am!

Drive a Porsh and it's hard to get back into a Ford.

(Drive a Chevy and a Ford is hard to take!!) :D

I'm familiar with flight characteristics of A/C, A/CI, Dominator, Butterfly, etc.-- but instead of asking us on the Forum, wouldn't it be better to contact the kit manufacturers themselves?

Nothing like an "official" opinion! What do you think?

Kerry, that's like asking a car manufacturer how good their car is. Mostly hype from automakers and aircraft manufacturers. Did you ever read the performance specs on a 152 in the Cessna brochure?

Kerry, you don't SERIOUSLY expect me to ask RAF how good their gryo is, do you?
I want to hear it from the people that actually know.
Ken, I can make a 152 do everything the spec sheet says. Just not all in one flight. :D

Well folks, you can start holding your breath! Two more, hopefully small, hurdles and I'll be in business.

Tell us what the program looks like so far. What machines will be covered? what kind of coverage and costs for coverage, etc....
