We had a discussion at our monthly meeting today about hangar insurance while our gyro are parked inside the building. The building has insurance from weather and fire but not the contents. Is there insurance for gyros and equipment stored inside the building if the hangar is damaged? We lease the building from the airport and pay monthly rental to the club.

Our (city owned) hangar has standard hangar liability insurance, meaning the contents have to be insured separately (and the city are on the insurance in case, say, your gyro explodes and sets fire to something else.) I don't think you'll be able to get contents insurance from your hangar insurance provider - hull insurance covers everything we have.

As posted above, Hangar insurance is like homeowners. It covers the building. If you want your car protected, you need auto insurance. Same with aircraft. Most airports won’t rent a hangar to uninsured aircraft.

Some airports have "Hangars Keepers Insurance" that states if the airport owned hangar collapses on your aircraft, it would be covered.

Hangar keepers insurance covers the airport. If something occurs within your hangar that causes damage, you are at fault and held responsible. That’s why it’s important to have coverage of your own similar to renters insurance. It’s also important to know the rules of the airport to avoid violating them and having a rejected insurance claim.
