His point about danger to people on the ground is well taken, although I imagine a gyro with its engine out will have a bit more last-second control and make a little more warning noise than a plane, especially a glider. I first read about this particularly tragic forced landing via Army accident reporting, when I was on active duty. Talk about being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Plane silent in landing that killed father, daughter on Florida beach
