I rode down to georgia friday morning with a friend ( 50 yr old buddy of mine that had drove down to my place from his place in roanoke virgina thursday night )
We got there around 1pm. We got unpacked and unloaded and geared up by 2. We rode till about 3 and came back to the cabin so some of the other guys ( we had a group of 4 older guys and 2 kids ) could get a drink and take a break (
it was very very hot friday! )
We geared back up to ride around 4, and while we were getting ready, a few of us rode out onto a endurocross track that was right in front of our cabin. endurocross courses are gnarly.... your riding over rocks, logs, truck tires, hopping up short but steep jumps, riding over large diameter pipes, etc.... So anyway, my virginia buddy hits the course as I ride back to the cabin to round up everyone so we can ride out onto the trails. Get everyone together and we can't find my friend. I finally spotted him on the ground next to his laid over bike behind one of the short little jumps. Apparently he rolled off the jump the wrong way and his front wheel dropped so low, he got flung off the bike over the bars..... he thought he had broken his collarbone. He was in intense pain and wasn't going to ride anymore.
We spent another 30 minutes getting the parks medical staff over and staying with him while they put a sling on him and iced up his shoulder. He refused a ambulance and didn't want to go to a hosiptal... he insisted that I go back out and ride, since the park closed to riding in only a hour or so. I told him that when I got back I would load us up and just take us home that night.
We then of course I ended up on the MX track just before making it back to the cabin, and broke my leg. We weren't sure I broke it. Was thinking I might have just severely jammed it..... eitherway I couldn't walk, could barely stand. My accident happened around 6 pm.
The rest of the guys loaded my friends and my bikes on the trailer and loaded all our stuff back into my car. They backed the car up and got it as close to the chair I had been sitting in since I got off the bike. They picked me up and helped me get into the car and believe it or not, I drove us home. wasnt painful at all to sit in the car and work the gas pedal.... had to use my left foot to hit the brake though. Got home at about 1am saturday morning.
My buddy got up at about 6am, and another friend of mine came over and unloaded our bikes and stuff our of the car and loaded up his stuff so he could drive back to virginia.
I spent most of the day just sitting on the couch trying to decide to go to urgent care for a xray or waiting to see if it would get better. my girlfriend pressured me into going ahead to check it out, so we went to a few places till we found a urgent care that didn't have a 3 + hour wait to be seen.
They xrayed me and it was obvious I had broke off about a third of the bone at the top of my tibila right under my knee, right leg. they gave me a brace and a prescription for some meds and made a appointment for a specialist to see me on monday and sent me home. So I spent saturday night and all day and night sunday on the couch with my leg elevated with ice packs on it.
Monday the doctor looked at it and decided to do surgery. I got checked in at around 11am and they took me into the OR around 2pm. whatever they use to knock you out... it was instant, was completely zoonked out and didn't wake up till almost 5pm. By then I was in a recovery room and was all bandaged up and had the brace back on.
Went home about a hour later and been here since. a friend loaned me some crutchs and I have gotten around the house to eat or use the bathroom etc....
Even with the pain pills it still hurts like crazy and I am generally just bored.
Luckily, a few friends stepped up to mow my yards this week and did my normal 5 day route in 3 days, finishing up late yesterday afternoon. So I just sit here till next week.
I have a appointment next monday with the doctor to look at things again, maybe remove the stitches.... got more friends to help with work again next week.
All in all I should be okay, just hurting like crazy and bored and probably be broke by the time everything is all over.
